Requirements
  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Eight years of professional experience leading, developing, and implementing environmental programs or policies.
  • Additional qualifying experience may substitute for the required degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • A master's degree in public administration, environmental science, environmental health, public policy, public health, or a related field may substitute for one year of experience.
  • A Ph.D. in public administration, environmental science, environmental health, public policy, public health, or a related field may substitute for two years of experience.
Responsibilities
  • Manage complex environmental programs by developing goals, policies, strategic plans, and standard protocols and procedures.
  • Supervise and assign work to program staff.
  • Interpret and apply relevant environmental laws and regulations.
  • Prepare budgets, monitor expenditures to ensure adherence to the approved budget, and secure grant funding.
  • Support the administration of funding and contracting processes, including oversight of grant disbursements and consultant agreements.
  • Make public presentations, conduct outreach, prepare written communications, and foster partnerships with community groups, nonprofit organizations, commissions, and private and public agencies.
  • Draft environmental documentation, contribute to technical policy updates, and coordinate permitting with regulatory agencies.
  • Develop environmental specifications and manage the departmental environmental compliance information tracking system.
