  • Must be able to learn and apply all the essential functions of the job.
  • All employees in this program will be on probation for a period of 2000 hours. Performance will be reviewed by the Joint Apprenticeship Committee regular intervals. Upon completion of the Apprenticeship program the candidate will be moved to the Journeyman’s pay rate of Grade ST-C.
  • Apprentices will be required to work across all (3) shifts.

  • All Apprentice candidates are required to pass a RISE Tier 1 Exam (Math and English)
  • Minimum test scores are as follows:
  • RISE Tier 1 Testing Math: 70%
  • RISE Tier 1 Testing English: 70%

  • The selection for these positions will be determined by scores and skillset through a Joint Apprenticeship Selection Committee comprised of equal number of designated members from the Company and Local 5286.

  • This position is open to applicants who can work in (or relocate to) the following location(s)- Gastonia Parts Plant.

  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work permanently in the country the position is located in at the time of application.
  • Final candidate must successfully complete a criminal background check.
  • Final candidate may be required to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen.
Responsibilities
  • Will perform various duties involved in repairing tooling or making new tooling.
  • Will also be required to attend formal classroom training in Tool and Die related skills. All educational requirements must be completed within a four-year, 8000-hour apprenticeship period.
  • All hands-on training will be provided by a certified Journeyman. This will include repair of stamping dies, assembly fixtures, welding fixtures, machining fixtures as well as any other tooling needs in the shop.
  • Milling, grinding, sawing, welding, heat-treating, lathe work, press line support, change over support, bench work, CAD work, wire EDM, CNC machining.
  • Tools and Equipment used: Miscellaneous hand tools such as hammers, wrenches, screw drivers, etc., portable power tools, overhead cranes, grinders, drill presses, mills, lathes, Tig and wire welding, EDM, CAD software, waterjet cutting.

Class8 launches free ELD with Daimler Truck North America for Freightliner fleets

Class8 has launched its platform with Daimler Truck North America, offering digital tools to Freightliner fleet operators. The Toronto-based freight technology company will provide services to customers operating Fifth-Generation Cascadia and Fourth-Generation Cascadia vehicles with CTP2 telematics. The platform centres on a free wireless Electronic Logging Device that eliminates installation and subscription costs whilst maintaining Hours of Service compliance. Additional optional services include Load Optimisation for real-time freight recommendations, Voice AI for automated load booking, and Dispatch AI for route planning. The modular approach allows carriers to adopt services incrementally without long-term commitments. Class8 services will be available to eligible Freightliner customers from February 2026, with expanded vehicle support throughout the year. The company previously launched Load Finder with Volvo and Mack.
