We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to join the Mapping organization and manage the team responsible for building, enhancing and maintaining Lyft’s infrastructure and data for the Pick-up Experience team. This team supports the backbone of Lyft's search system, supporting millions of rides by helping our riders and drivers connect and reach their destinations. Our focus is to ensure the pick-up/drop-off experience is seamless by enhancing guidance and routing as well as the rider experience. Additionally the team uses map data to create new product experiences in collaboration with teams across Lyft. This team has a history of enabling rich and creative features that directly influence the product for all our users. We constantly innovate and incorporate cutting-edge technologies to make the lives of our community more enriched.
We are looking for an engineering manager with a passion for mapping and a proven expertise in managing teams with ownership of microservices, big-data processing and experience in building scalable solutions in cloud environments.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of talented engineers who like to ship code and tackle hard engineering problems
- Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of your team members. Help develop their careers and assign them to projects tailored to their skill levels, personalities, work styles, and professional goals
- Build teams that are collaborative, inclusive, and respectful of each other
- Provide continuous feedback, address underperformance, and recognize the individual strengths and contributions of your team members
- Create plans for prioritizing technical and resourcing challenges in your organization
- Maintain a balance between building sustainable, high-impact projects and shipping things quickly
- Instill a spirit of continuous improvement in the team’s code, architecture, and processes
- Work closely with the Lyft recruiting team to hire high potential candidates from diverse backgrounds
- Work with your engineers and/or product managers to maintain a prioritized backlog and create short term and long-term goals
- Own your team’s deliverables and ensure we continue to ship scalable, highly-available products that delight our passengers and drivers
- Help your team build relationships across functions and teams to ensure Lyft’s continuing success
Experience:
- People management experience
- Experience leading a team of engineers and guiding them through their career development
- Technical background and experience contribute to planning and design discussions
- Experience guiding teams through planning, prioritization, and execution of work
- Experience building both teams and products that scale
Nice to have:
- Experience with mapping, geospatial data, place data, or reverse geocoding.
- Desire to build great product experiences.
- Experience with machine learning.

The expected base pay range for this position in the Toronto area is CAD $172,000 - CAD $215,000. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits.
