Requirements
  • Doctoral degree in a biological or health sciences field or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in patch-clamp electrophysiology, including experimental design, data acquisition, and analysis, with experience in whole-cell recordings in cardiac myocytes or heterologous expression systems, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Plans, designs, and executes experiments of considerable scope and complexity in the study of cardiac ion channel regulation and arrhythmia mechanisms.
  • Collects and analyzes data for research sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, as well as by other agencies.
  • Identifies and selects research problems with increasing independence.
  • Develops and troubleshoots new experimental techniques and protocols, particularly in patch-clamp electrophysiology and cardiac cellular systems.
  • Attends research seminars.
  • Contributes to manuscript preparation and supports scientific writing.
  • Participates in preparation of grant applications for extramural funding.
