Requirements
  • A Master of Social Work degree is required.
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development, emotional and behavioral health, mental health, parent-child relationships, family dynamics, and diagnostic classification is required.
  • Strong expertise in strengths-based, solution-focused, and family-centered practice is required.
  • Knowledge of guidelines, policies, and regulations relating to child welfare, safety, permanency, and well-being is required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team with individuals of diverse ethnicities, backgrounds, ages, and sexual preferences is required.
Responsibilities
  • Complete psychosocial assessments of complex families impacted by multiple systems.
  • Assess family needs and facilitate appropriate linkages to community-based services.
  • Work within a crisis-driven environment involving substance abuse and addiction, domestic violence, child maltreatment, trauma, and mental health conditions.
  • Provide education to team members about clients' psychosocial stressors and needs to support positive outcomes for families.
  • Attend ongoing professional development provided by the agency program and the New York City Department of Homeless Services Division of Family Services.
  • Provide qualitative and quantitative feedback to the Department of Homeless Services and its service providers to inform policy and practice.
  • Be available to families seeking assistance at least five days per week, eight hours per day.
  • Use a strengths-based, family-focused, client-centered perspective to identify and reinforce each family's strengths.
  • Assist families with stressors associated with living in shelter.
  • Ensure families receive full support in shelter and refer families for counseling or other services when necessary.
  • Confer and consult with professional and technical personnel to implement a multidisciplinary approach to client care and well-being.
  • Serve as an agency or program liaison to community agencies and groups.
  • Provide clear written reports containing key findings, provider strengths, and recommendations for improvement.
  • Document patient medical and psychological histories, physical assessment results, diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, and outcomes.
  • Complete other tasks as deemed necessary by the program director.
  • Work a flexible schedule when needed, including weekend or evening hours.
  • Comply with SUS employee, corporate compliance, and New York State Department of Social Services policies, procedures, protocols, rules, regulations, and statutes.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bilingual ability is preferred but not required.
  • Licensed Master Social Worker licensure is preferred.
