Tesla makes electric cars and batteries that store power for homes and utilities, and it develops self-driving software and humanoid robots. In 2023, its Model Y became the first electric vehicle to rank as the world's best-selling car. Buyers order the Model 3 sedan, Model Y SUV, or Cybertruck pickup directly from Tesla instead of through dealers, and they charge on its Supercharger fast-charging network. It also sells Megapack and Powerwall batteries, runs a robotaxi service, and charges drivers a monthly fee for self-driving software that still needs their supervision. Tesla was founded in 2003, with Elon Musk as its lead early investor and a recognized co-founder, and it is based in Austin, Texas.

Tesla chief executive officer Elon Musk unveiled the new Roadster on Thursday, saying it will be "the only manually driven car that Tesla makes" in the long term. The stunt-filled demo, choreographed with autonomy, showed the car driving upside down and briefly flying. Tesla has not revealed the final price. It asks buyers to put down a $50,000 reservation for the base Performance trim, and in 2017 it collected $250,000 payments for Founder Series models. Meanwhile, Tesla is pushing autonomy for cheaper cars. The Cybercab, which has no steering wheel or brake pedals, began rolling out in September, and Tesla aims to sell it for under $30,000.
Tesla unveiled its redesigned Roadster on Thursday at SpaceX's rocket test site in McGregor, Texas, nearly nine years after Elon Musk first showed the idea in 2017. Production will start in 2028, with deposits of $50,000 for the Performance version and $250,000 for the Thrust version. The car used cold-gas thrusters borrowed from SpaceX to drive upside down on a curved ramp and flip in midair. Musk said it can reach 60 mph in under a second and top 230 mph. The reveal revived talk of a Tesla–SpaceX merger. EMJ Capital founder Eric Jackson said there is "no point" while both companies enjoy a premium valuation. Yorkville Ives partner Dan Ives sees an 80% chance of a merger by the end of 2027.

24/7 Wall St. set a $405.69 price target for Tesla and rated the stock a buy. That implies 8.12% upside from Tuesday's close of $375.23. The firm argues the market still prices Tesla as a car company, despite growth in Robotaxi, Full Self-Driving (FSD) subscriptions, energy storage and the Optimus robot. Second-quarter revenue rose 25.52% to $28.24 billion. Active FSD subscriptions rose 56% to 1.48 million, and storage installations reached 13.5 GWh. Capex of $5.789 billion pushed free cash flow to -$1.092 billion. The bull case is $467.45; the bear case is $364.28. Tesla expects 2026 capex of more than $25 billion, and it trades at 159 times forward earnings.
Tesla unveiled its redesigned Roadster on Thursday night at SpaceX's rocket test site in McGregor, Texas, nearly nine years after Elon Musk first showed the idea in 2017. Production is due to start in 2028, so the car is unlikely to lift near-term earnings. Using cold-gas thrusters borrowed from SpaceX and a suction system, the car drove upside down on a curved ramp, vaulted off it, and flipped in mid-air before landing. Musk said it can reach 60 mph in under a second and top 230 mph. It is unclear whether the stunt features would be legal on public roads. Deposits are $50,000 for the Performance version and $250,000 for the Thrust version. Analyst Gene Munster called the event an "engineering flex with no commercial value beyond embarrassing traditional car makers." Tesla shares rose 5% in pre-market trading on Friday; SpaceX gained 2%.
