Job Purpose
Our Payroll Manager will oversee all payroll services for our over 5500 tribemates in the US and Canada. The Manager will provide guidance to our payroll team. This position works closely with human resources, finance and operational leadership to evaluate and implement payroll solutions to minimize risk and maximize the profitability of the organization. This position is located at our corporate office in Virginia Beach, VA.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the career growth planning and development activities for department members
- Providing timely and specific coaching to staff to contribute to their growth and development
- Managing a team including payroll analysts supporting our employees in their questions on pay within established SLA commitments on customer service
- Monitoring changes in the areas of minimum wage, wage and hour law, sick leave, and other federal, state and local regulations.
- Sharing expertise and practices to help ensure a highly competent and professional team
- Creating an environment where team members are empowered to take ownership and make decisions
- Ensuring information is shared in a clear, concise and collaborative manner
- Making staffing recommendations including hiring and terminations; performing annual performance evaluations for team members
- Strong customer-oriented solution and advocacy mind-set.
- Strong understanding of technology, and a willingness and ability to leverage data and analytics to derive creative, thoughtful solutions to payroll issues.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the tradeoff between speed and perfection.
- Able to align the resources of the payroll services function to support business objectives.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with a high degree of self-awareness.
- Ability to identify and analyze operational needs with solid problem-solving abilities.
- Experienced at providing mentorship in establishing vision and goals with a track record of developing team members.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in HR, Finance, Accounting, Business or related field
- 5+ years finance related experience specific to payroll with 2+ years managing a team
- Demonstrated experience running operations with high volume, multi-state payroll, and experience analyzing that data
- Strong interpersonal skills, including persuasive written and verbal communication skills
- Solid organizational and project management skills
- Passion for providing excellent customer service
- Demonstrated ability to work across multi-functional teams
- Demonstrated ability to handle numerous tasks simultaneously and ability to adapt in a fast paced and ever-changing environment
- Experience performing ad hoc analysis using advanced Excel including V-look ups, pivot tables, and other related software applications
- Experience in Workday required.
Working Conditions
Payroll Manager will be in an office environment. Travel is not required in this position. The role is in person.
