Requirements
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng) with a Canadian engineering association
  • 10+ years of engineering experience with noteworthy experience in a reservoir engineering role
  • Significant experience with at least one reservoir modeling software
  • An ability and willingness to learn new concepts and software tools
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders
Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of dynamic reservoir models in both saline aquifer and CO2 mineralization applications. This will include reviewing relevant academic studies and other publicly available information in order to refine model parameters and quantify uncertainty.
  • Use advanced simulation software to optimize CO2 injection schemes and forecast expected CO2 plume behaviour.
  • Contribute to the screening and selection of CO2 injection sites by analyzing available data and quantifying expected CO2 storage performance.
  • Assess and quantify risks to long term CO2 containment, and develop monitoring programs and mitigation strategies.
  • Contribute to regulatory applications for CO2 storage schemes.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations summarizing reservoir modelling findings, ensuring all work is well documented for future reference and regulatory compliance.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest reservoir engineering practices and simulation tools, and contribute to the advancement of organizational reservoir engineering best practices.
  • Coordinate with various subsurface team members including geologists, geophysicists, drilling/completions engineers, and MMV specialists to ensure successful implementation of CO2 storage projects.
Desired Qualifications
  • Preference will be given to candidates experienced in injection operations and/or geological containment assurance (i.e. CCS, disposal schemes, geothermal, SAGD, etc.)
  • Experience with advanced modeling (geomechanical, reactive-transport, etc.) would be considered an asset

Deep Sky builds infrastructure to scale CO2 removal using direct air capture and ocean capture, storing the CO2 underground in Quebec with the help of local clean energy and geology. DAC and ocean devices collect CO2 from air and seawater, and the gas is permanently sequestered to create verifiable carbon removals. The company differentiates itself by emphasizing durable, scalable Scope 3 removals, working with government bodies, communities, and partner capture firms to deploy large facilities powered by Quebec’s clean energy. Its goal is to provide long-term, verifiable carbon offsets for the next 150 years to help governments and companies meet climate goals.

What believers are saying

  • ENGIE partnership commits to 15,000 carbon credit purchases, validating commercial demand.
  • Deep Sky Manitoba targets 500,000 tonnes annual removal capacity by 2027.
  • Low Carbon PPA secures renewable energy, reducing operational costs and improving margins.

What critics are saying

  • Climeworks Project Indus captures 36,000 tonnes annually at lower cost, eroding premium pricing.
  • Voluntary carbon credit prices crashed 40% due to oversupply from new DAC entrants.
  • Manitoba regulatory probe into ocean acidification risks halts Deep Sky Manitoba permitting indefinitely.

What makes Deep Sky unique

  • Tech-agnostic model deploys multiple DAC technologies simultaneously, reducing single-technology risk.
  • Vertically integrated operations control capture, storage, and power across Canadian facilities.
  • Secured geologic storage sites in Quebec and Manitoba with permanent CO₂ mineralization capability.
