About the team + role
Brokerage products are the bread and butter of Robinhood. The brokerage team is a fast-paced, dynamic, and innovative team. As a member of this cross-functional group, you will collaborate closely with partners in trade execution, product, engineering, and compliance to unlock the potential of our data and shape the future of the brokerage products.
We are seeking an experienced Data Scientist to join our Brokerage team. In this role, you will be responsible for strengthening our routing strategy and driving excellence in our trade execution. This position requires proven experience in statistical modeling and optimization theory. Prior experience in finance and market behavior is preferred.

What you’ll do
- Develop, refine, and implement sophisticated data models to analyze large datasets, with a focus on market structure and order routing optimization.
- Apply concepts from game theory and auction design to understand competitive behavior, pricing dynamics, and strategic decision-making in the markets.
- Collaborate with trading teams to design, test, and improve algorithms that optimize trade execution.
- Conduct post-trade analysis to evaluate performance against internal and industry benchmarks, resulting in recommendations for improvements.
- Partner with traders, strategists, and software engineers to translate business needs into data-driven solutions and present insights to stakeholders.
What you bring
- PhD in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, or Engineering with 5+ years of relevant work experience, or a Master’s degree with 7+ years of relevant work experience.
- Proven experience applying game theory, market microstructure analysis, or auction theory in a practical setting.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, and machine learning frameworks.
- Proficient knowledge of FINRA best execution rules and their application in the market.
- Experience with financial data platforms and market data APIs.
- Strong grasp of statistical methods, predictive modeling, and optimization algorithms.

Base pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected salary range for this role is based on the location where the work will be performed and is aligned to one of 3 compensation zones. This role is also eligible to participate in a Robinhood bonus plan and Robinhood’s equity plan. For other locations not listed, compensation can be discussed with your recruiter during the interview process.
