IENG 2P11 - Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer
Compensation
Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.
· Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $22.07 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2024)
· Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $34.73 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2024)
· In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.
Duties
The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These include scheduled contact time with students (leading weekly lab sessions, answering student questions, and holding office hours) and non-classroom time (preparation of tutorial content, marking/grading, exam proctoring, and other course-related administrative duties).
Qualifications
- Solid academic foundation in Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer – demonstrated excellence in undergraduate and/or graduate coursework
- Analytical and numerical problem-solving skills – ability to break down complex concepts such as energy balances, entropy, conduction, convection, and radiation for students.
- Experience with computational tools – proficiency in MATLAB, EES, or simulation software (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL) for solving thermodynamics and heat transfer problems.
- Strong communication and teaching ability – capable of clearly explaining theoretical principles and assisting students with assignments or tutorials.
- Laboratory and experimental background – hands-on experience with heat exchangers, thermal systems, and data acquisition relevant to thermofluids experiments.
