BusRight transportation platform delivers nearly $1 million in savings for Poughkeepsie City School District. Acclaimed student transportation technology pioneer also expands busing access to 1,200 students while reducing route needs through strategic planning. August 18, 2026 07:00 ET | Source: BusRight NEW YORK, Aug. 18, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - BusRight, the leading all-in-one student transportation technology solution, has proudly helped to generate nearly $1 million in transportation savings for the Poughkeepsie City School District (PCSD). In its first year of partnership with the long-admired district, BusRight also expanded school bus access to approximately 1,200 students who previously lacked service. The student transportation technology pioneer worked in lockstep with district leaders to develop a customized student transit program tailored to Poughkeepsie's multidimensional needs, allowing PCSD to operate without the complexities associated with maintaining a robust, dedicated transportation department. "School transportation is one of the most important services a district provides, but many schools across the country lack the resources and expertise needed to maximize the effectiveness and impact of scholastic transit," said Marissa Blankenship, Director of BusRight Solutions. "In Poughkeepsie, that challenge was addressed by shifting from reactive routing to a fully data-driven transportation model, allowing us to create a stronger foundation for daily operations and help the district uncover opportunities that support long-term growth." Facing the many obstacles that stem from operating with an incomplete transportation department, PCSD tapped BusRight to establish and implement a bus service system from scratch. BusRight leveraged its transportation management platform and collaborated with school leaders to map routes, reconfigure school boundaries, refine bus stop placement, manage daily operations, improve safety and optimize communication with families. Through real-time visibility and communication tools, the district was able to better account for students, keep parents informed and support drivers with the information they needed to navigate routes safely and efficiently. By working directly with district leaders, staff and families, BusRight helped PCSD avoid nine projected routes from the contractor's original transportation plan, reducing its total routes from 26 to 17 without compromising service. Improved student attendance and overall student success were central to PCSD's partnership with BusRight. As the district faced chronic absenteeism, leaders recognized that reliable transportation was critical to ensuring students could get to school and learn. By making transportation more accessible and efficient, PCSD strengthened a broader campaign to improve attendance and remove educational barriers. Alongside other district-wide initiatives, those efforts contributed to improved attendance outcomes, with the district's analysis finding that 41% of assessed elementary students improved their attendance levels compared with the previous school year. The findings underscore the role reliable transportation can play in helping remove barriers to consistent attendance and student success. "When we set out to expand transportation access for our students, we knew we needed more than technology, we needed a hands-on partner to help us navigate the additional challenges along the way," said Gregory Mott, Superintendent of Poughkeepsie City School District. "BusRight's recommendations made all the difference, and the results speak for themselves: nearly $1 million in first-year savings, a safer and more sustainable operating model and new opportunities to grow service in the years ahead." Following a successful first year with BusRight, PCSD will continue leveraging data-driven transportation planning to support evolving student needs and identify future opportunities to enhance service. BusRight has launched Safety Pass, an NFC-based student tracking system that provides real-time boarding and drop-off data for school transportation. The technology integrates with BusRight's existing platform, allowing transportation teams and families to access time-stamped records of student activity without requiring additional equipment or complex setup. Sevier County School District in Tennessee will implement Safety Pass across its 10,000-student bus system this August. The district expects the system to significantly reduce response times when locating students. Assistant Superintendent Tony Ogle noted that what previously required an hour or more of coordination can now be accessed rapidly. The solution uses NFC-enabled badges that contain no personal student information and only function near BusRight tablets. The system aims to strengthen communication between transportation teams, schools and families whilst maintaining student privacy.
BusRight increases student transportation safety with new rider tracking technology. Safety Pass feature gives schools, transportation teams and families immediate access to student bus activity and strengthens emergency response capabilities. NEW YORK, Aug. 05, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - BusRight, the leading all-in-one student transportation technology solution, has expanded its safety capabilities with the launch of Safety Pass, a new NFC-based solution that gives drivers, administrators and families real-time access to student boarding and drop-off data. By providing transportation teams with immediate answers to questions, especially during emergencies, Safety Pass helps districts strengthen communication, improve response times and reassure families. "Transportation teams are responsible for making sure all students get where they need to go safely, and they need tools that support that mission without adding unnecessary challenges," said Zac Cohn, Senior Director of Strategic Operations at BusRight. "Safety Pass brings student ridership tracking directly into the BusRight platform, providing districts with a simple, reliable way to strengthen transportation operations and giving families peace of mind." For most school districts, confirming where a student boarded or exited the bus - especially during unexpected situations - during unexpected situations requires the combined efforts of transportation staff, school administrators, drivers and often even emergency personnel. Safety Pass allows transportation teams to forgo this chaotic scrambling and instead, teams can secure a live, time-stamped record of student boarding and drop-off activity through BusRight's existing transportation management platform. By giving districts faster access to accurate rider information, Safety Pass strengthens communication between transportation teams, schools and families, creating a safer, more transparent transportation experience. Student privacy is central to Safety Pass. The solution uses NFC-enabled badges that do not contain personal student information and can only be read in proximity to the BusRight tablet. Unlike traditional student tracking systems that require costly equipment, complex setup or ongoing fees, Safety Pass integrates directly into BusRight's existing platform. Sevier County School District in Tennessee will fully integrate Safety Pass into its transportation operations this August, supporting the district's 10,000-student bus system throughout Kodak, Seymour, Sevierville, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Sevier County School District manages a complex transportation system across highly populated communities and rural mountain neighborhoods with unique operational challenges, and the new technology will improve student safety and strengthen communication with families. "Parents often contact schools or district offices to locate their kid, which creates an all-hands-on-deck situation requiring coordination between school administrators, transportation teams and drivers to quickly provide families with answers," said Tony Ogle, Assistant Superintendent of Student Services at Sevier County Schools. "With Safety Pass, we can rapidly access information that otherwise would require an hour or more to collect, allowing us to respond faster, reassure families and quickly account for student whereabouts."
