We are hiring for multiple teams across the Mobility and Delivery Product Engineering organization. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will drive the implementation of a variety of products and systematic improvements while working closely with cross-functional folks and other senior engineers. You’ll work closely with product, operations, data science, and engineering teams throughout the company. You will make an impact in the real world using exciting and new technology. Maps: Uber’s map is the foundation of every ride and delivery made, it is the heart that makes us able to move the world. Having the latest and most accurate map is critical to the business. The Base Map team’s charter is to build solutions so that changes to planet wide road network and other map data are continuously ingested, enriched and refreshed while serving hundreds of thousands of concurrent trips by drivers and couriers all around the globe. Marketplace & Pricing: Uber’s Marketplace org is one of the most unique and complex organizations in the industry. We are at the core of Uber’s business, responsible for building critical components across various work streams that impact Pricing, Incentives, Matching, Surge, Personalization, Merchant Optimization and Supply Forecasting that impact daily lives of our earners, riders, and eaters realtime.

Mobility and Platforms: Uber’s Mobility and Platforms organization consists of core teams focused on empowering users and optimizing experiences.

• Earner Team: We enable individuals worldwide to build sustainable incomes through innovative products, supporting over 100,000 new drivers each week across 10,000+ cities. Our agile, tech-driven approach ensures safety and compliance for our diverse global user base.
• Product Platform Team: This team manages Uber’s global fare systems, processing billions in transactions. By developing a unified platform for Mobility and Delivery fares, we enhance scalability and performance, enabling quick, data-driven decisions for a seamless user experience.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field with at least 4 years of full-time Software Engineering work experience OR PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field with at least 2 year of full-time Software Engineering work experience
• Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, C++, Python, or Go
• 4 years of experience with backend development, building and delivering end-user products.

Preferred Qualifications:

• More than 6 years of full-time Software Engineering work experience
• Proven experience building highly available distributed systems (at Uber scale) and working across multiple backend services
• Experience working on scalable backend systems utilizing a microservices architecture
• High bar for quality as demonstrated by code reviews, documentation, unit and integration testing
• Experience with optimization techniques and algorithmic development
• Strong problem-solving skills, with expertise in algorithms, data structures, and complexity analysis

What You’ll Do:

• Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable software solutions
• Collaborate with product managers, cross-engineering teams, data scientists and other partners to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications
• Identify opportunities and lead of the entire development lifecycle end-to-end, from architecture design and coding to deployment

• Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and mentor junior engineers to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement

• Participate in periodic on-call rotations and be available for critical issues

• Mentor and guide other engineers, providing technical leadership and encouraging a collaborative and growth-oriented team environment

• Build and maintain scalable backend services and infrastructure
• Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and industry trends, evaluating their potential impact on our software systems and recommending appropriate integrations or improvements

For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$185,000 per year - USD$205,500 per year.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$185,000 per year - USD$205,500 per year.

For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$185,000 per year - USD$205,500 per year.

For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$185,000 per year - USD$205,500 per year.
