Overview of Intern Fundamental Researcher position:
Our summer program, while flexible on timing, will ideally run at least 10-weeks and provide Summer Interns the opportunity to work side by side with multiple investment professionals across sectors. This program provides direct exposure to the role of a discretionary investment analyst. You’ll learn firsthand what it is like to work in a dynamic environment driven by the market, including:
- Research broader market factors and themes as well as dive deeper into verticals within tech, healthcare, consumer, energy and industrials. Develop fundamental analysis skills to identify attractive investment opportunities in both public and private equities.
- Leverage alternative datasets to perform various types of diligence on both private and public companies.
- Develop your technical acumen and communication skills.
- Facilitate relationships with the street and build partnerships with banks across the sell-side.
- Research and support strategies within the firm’s current trading framework.
- Collaborate with other groups across the firm.
- Attend sessions with senior leaders discussing their expertise and career paths.
- Consideration for full-time employment upon graduation.
Typical Day of Fundamental Researcher:
- You will work on a myriad of tasks from multi-week, in depth projects to daily ad-hoc requests from the analysts. The primary focus throughout the day is on evaluating and meeting with companies through various methods including sell-side interaction / data analysis, facilitating existing strategies, and supporting quantitative teams through rigorous fundamental diligence.
Skill Set Required For Position:
- Experience in researching and analyzing companies’ fundamental business drivers – ideally through prior internship experience or in a related position. Modeling skills are preferred but not required.
- Demonstrate passion for both investing and industry trends in the public markets.
- Excellent writing skills and ability to quickly synthesize thoughts and organize information.
- Creative thinking and problem-solving skills alongside a willingness to take initiative.
- An openness to tackle any project or task that is required.
- Investing background and grasp for financial markets, and valuation / accounting principles - includes degrees in Business Administration, Economics, Statistics, or related subjects.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work well with colleagues across multiple teams and regions.
- Fluency in English is required.
The minimum base salary for this role is $60,000 if located in New York. This expectation is based on available information at the time of posting. This role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses, which could constitute a significant portion of total compensation. This role may also be eligible for benefits, such as health, dental, and other wellness plans, as well as 401(k) contributions. Successful candidates’ compensation and benefits will be determined in consideration of various factors.
