Requirements
  • An associate degree in a related field or Journeyworker certification in related industry and two years or four thousand hours of related work experience.
  • Or a technical diploma with the ability to obtain an associate degree or a Journeyworker certification within three years in a related field and six years or twelve thousand hours of related work experience.
  • At least one year of occupational work experience (two thousand hours) must be within five years prior to the date of appointment; this can be waived if the instructor has at least two years of post-secondary teaching experience in the field within the previous five years.
  • Experience in commercial construction is highly preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences through clear, professional oral and written communication.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, including learner-centered instruction, active learning, assessment, evaluation, collaborative techniques, and strategies aimed at closing achievement gaps across race, gender, class, and disability.
  • Desire and ability to teach courses in the technical/occupational program levels.
  • Ability to communicate complex and difficult concepts to students with varied backgrounds and levels of preparedness.
  • Engage in continuous improvement of instruction by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods, and incorporating appropriate use of new and emerging technologies, including willingness to learn online or hybrid instruction.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues on course and program promotion, direction, and innovation.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to fit students’ needs and support student engagement and continually revise curriculum to improve student learning.
  • Evaluate student performance and provide regular feedback in courses taught by the instructor.
  • Contribute to student success and retention by advising students with course selection, career concerns, internships, and other matters.
  • Serve as an advocate for students and engage in activities that help students achieve their goals such as writing letters of recommendations and/or helping students link with internships, service learning, job shadowing and other forms of networking.
  • Provide support to the program, the school, and the college by attending and engaging in events and meetings and participating fully within the team environment.
  • Continually improve teaching through professional development activities and the integration of new techniques and technology. This includes the development and implementation of individualized professional development plan.
Desired Qualifications
  • Teaching demonstration and curriculum materials will be required for screening and hiring process.
  • Commercial construction experience is highly preferred.
