- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Two years of previous experience in the steel industry or quality control is required.
- General product knowledge is required.
- Familiarity with inspection tools and procedures is required.
- Knowledge of the types of inspection procedures required is necessary.
- Strong Excel skills are required.
- The ability to work accurately, concisely, and independently, as well as as part of a team in a multitasked environment, is required.
- Prepare and test specimens for tensile, hardness, Charpy impact, and other required testing.
- Assist the QA Manager with maintenance and calibration of testing and measuring equipment in the testing laboratory and production facility.
- Mill, cut, and shape specimens according to ASTM or other requirements.
- Ensure the accuracy of test specimens and test results.
- Perform material testing in compliance with ASTM, ASME, and other standards required by customers.
- Operate the specimen testing laboratory, including sample preparation, physical testing, and record keeping.
- Document test certificates from producing steel mills.
- Prepare certificates after physical testing.
- Deliver test certificates to customers.
- Conduct defect training.
- Support continuous improvement activities.
