Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience with lab animal use in an academic / institutional setting
  • Experience developing and preparing animal protocols
  • Familiarity with applicable regulations and guidelines
  • Computer literacy utilizing Microsoft Office applications
Responsibilities
  • Conduct activities that support institutional compliance and accreditation of the animal care and use program (ACUP) for the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)
  • Educate investigators and research staff on IACUC policies and procedures as they apply to their studies
  • Assist the IACUC with post-approval monitoring including semi-annual inspections and protocol review with lab members
  • Conduct inspections of animal care and use locations
  • Train research staff and IACUC members on animal use protocols and IACUC policies
  • Coordinate with other internal units supporting the ACUP
  • Facilitate noncompliance investigations and follow-up actions, and document actions as needed/requested
  • Communicate with PIs on issues and provide follow-up
  • Help establish and maintain standard operating procedures for Investigator core services
Desired Qualifications
  • Minimum 4-8 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Experience with and knowledge of IACUC processes and requirements
  • Knowledge of quality improvement principles
  • AALAS, CMAR, or CPIA certification
