Requirements
  • Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, business administration, management, or a closely related field, plus one year of professional experience in public or business administration; relevant experience and/or education may be substituted.
  • Alternatively, one year with Pima County as an Administrative Specialist I or closely related professional administrative classification.
  • A valid driver license is required at the time of application, and a valid Arizona driver license is required at the time of appointment.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background checks, including verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history.
  • Ability to complete any required personal background investigation, post-offer physical and/or drug screen, and satisfy driving-record requirements for operating county vehicles.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds and perform required bending, climbing, kneeling, reaching, squatting, stooping, and grasping activities.
Responsibilities
  • Provide complex administrative services of a specialized nature to a department, division, or program within Pima County.
  • Negotiate and establish Intergovernmental Agreements, contracts, and other obligatory agreements, and monitor compliance.
  • Prepare work unit budgets, oversee expenditures, perform cost and statistical analyses, and prepare reports and recommendations.
  • Perform research, prepare written reports and recommendations, and inform management about issues, concerns, and problems affecting the specialized work unit.
  • Provide information, status updates, and recommendations to department directors, division managers, and professional staff regarding the assigned area, and respond to public inquiries by interpreting work unit and county policies and procedures.
  • Ensure work unit policies, procedures, and activities comply with applicable federal and state statutes and regulations and county policy.
  • Oversee internal services such as accounting, payroll, personnel, management information services, and purchasing.
  • Represent the work unit at meetings, conferences, or committees and provide specialized expertise related to the assigned area.
  • Develop, maintain, and manage databases using automated information systems, and compile, review, and monitor information for reporting purposes.
  • Coordinate administrative processes, assist with budget and accounting functions, maintain records and reports, support departmental projects, and help coordinate facility-related requests and building maintenance activities.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least two years of experience working with budgets and finance.
  • At least two years of experience working with purchasing.
  • At least two years of experience working with contracts and grant award agreements.
  • At least two years of experience working with financial software applications.
