The Work

As Lead Scheduler you own the schedule for an entire community college bond program, and you run the schedulers who work on the individual campuses.

You build and maintain the master schedule and the baselines behind it, with the logic, the milestones, the calendars, and the money and people loaded in. You review everything the contractors submit and check it against the contract and the approved baseline. When something slips, you are the one who works out exactly what it did to the completion date and who caused it.

That last part is most of the value. Anyone can update a schedule. This job is about being able to prove what a delay actually cost, hold a contractor to their own logic, and give the program leadership a forecast they can put in front of a board.

You also lead the schedule conversation in the room. Weekly progress meetings, schedule reviews, and sessions with program leadership, explaining where things stand, what is on the critical path, what is about to go wrong, and what needs to happen about it.

And you run the other schedulers. You onboard the new ones, supervise their day to day work, cover for them when they are out, and set the standards, templates, and coding everyone uses so the schedules across the program actually line up with each other.

What You Will Own

• The program schedule: baseline, master, and detailed, with logic, constraints, milestones, calendars, and cost and resource loading
• Review of every contractor schedule submittal against the contract, the specification, and the approved baseline
• Quality control on the schedules themselves: critical paths, activity relationships, float, coding, and whether the data holds up
• Time impact analysis and delay investigation, and proving what an impact does to the milestones and the completion date
• Schedule risk: spotting it, tracking it, telling people about it, and helping build the recovery plan
• The reporting: baseline variance, critical path changes, milestone performance, forecast completion, delays, and recovery actions
• The schedulers on the college project teams. Onboarding them, supervising their work, and covering for them
• The program's scheduling standards, templates, coding structures, and tools, and keeping every project consistent with them
• Being the person contractors, designers, project leadership, and program leadership come to when a schedule question needs settling

What You Bring

• 15 years of recent capital construction scheduling. If you do not have the degree below, 19 years of it also qualifies you
• Advanced Primavera. Also MS Project, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• Cost and resource loaded schedules, done properly, not just activity lists
• Earned Value Management, or an equivalent way of measuring what has actually been delivered against what was planned
• Time impact analysis and schedule forensics. You can reconstruct what happened on a job and defend it
• A working knowledge of cost engineering alongside the scheduling
• Experience leading other schedulers, not only your own work
• A bachelor's in architecture, engineering, business administration, or construction management, or four more years of the experience above in place of it

Preferred

• AACE Planning and Scheduling Professional (PSP)
• PMI Project Management Professional (PMP)
• Community college or K-12 campus programs
• Owner or program side scheduling rather than contractor side only

Compensation

Salary range: $175,000 to $192,000 per year, based on experience.
