Requirements
  • Be enrolled in 3 credit hours if not enrolled in 12 credit hours during the previous semester.
  • Have a Mechanical Engineering or related background.
  • Have CAD modeling skills.
  • Have 3D printing skills.
  • Be skilled in designing and building fixed frames made from steel tubes or aluminum extrusions.
  • Be willing to work in person at Pickle Research Campus.
Responsibilities
  • Fabricate and assemble structural frames using steel tubing and/or aluminum extrusions, including cutting, drilling, and fitting components to CAD specifications.
  • Design, model, and iterate CAD assemblies for the chassis, suspension, and steering.
  • 3D print prototype parts and fixtures for mechanical subsystems, and iterate designs based on fit and function testing.
  • Support integration of mechanical systems with electrical, sensor, and control subsystems, coordinating with team members on interface requirements.
  • Assist with bench and field testing of the ground and aerial systems.
  • Lead machine-shop fabrication tasks, including cutting, welding, drilling, and tapping.
Desired Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience with automotive systems, suspension, braking, or steering.
  • Experience with finite element analysis.
  • Hands-on experience and training with a machine shop.
  • Hands-on experience in welding or a basic understanding of welding.
