Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Two years of experience working as an activity coordinator or volunteer coordinator in a patient care setting are required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks is required.
  • Ability to deal with emotional or stressful patients, families, and situations is required.
  • Ability to use a computer keyboard, monitor, and mouse and apply hospital software programs is required.
  • The employee must be able to perform moderate to heavy physical activity, including lifting, pushing a loaded cart, and exercise-type activities.
  • The employee must be able to bend, stoop, reach, stand, and walk during an 11–12-hour shift; lift 40 pounds from floor to waist; and ambulate, position, turn, and pull up self-assisting adult patients.
  • The employee may occasionally transport patients.
  • The employee may be scheduled for various shifts based on departmental and patient needs.
Responsibilities
  • Provide recreation and leisure activities to patients.
  • Organize a patient activities program for individuals and groups based on individual and unit needs to promote patient well-being.
  • Plan, organize, and implement physical, social, religious, creative or expressive, intellectual, and other leisure activities as appropriate.
  • Work with unit managers and staff to identify and provide unit-based leisure activity programs and opportunities for patients.
  • Integrate activities into patient plans of care and document them in patient records as appropriate.
  • Accept referrals from units and physicians to visit patients.
  • Provide administrative support to the department as needed.
  • Assess referred patients for leisure interests, needs, and problems.
  • Involve and inform healthcare professionals, family members, and others about activities and patient responses as indicated.
  • Communicate patient needs and concerns through the proper chain of command to ensure that patient needs and requests are met.
  • Maintain records and other documentation as indicated.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze programmatic data as needed.
  • Order supplies and equipment for Patient Activities program use.
  • Assist with budget control.
  • Submit requisitions for supplies and equipment for Patient Activities program use.
  • Promote and contribute positively to intradepartmental and interdepartmental relationships.
  • Orient and provide supervision to activity staff and volunteers when needed.
  • The position is scheduled Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification is preferred.
  • Some college and/or knowledge of recreational and therapeutic activities is preferred.
  • Previous experience with EPIC software is preferred.
