The imaging sensors developed and tested at the Chelmsford site have been used on humanities most important space imaging missions. These include the Hubble Telescope, Keplar, GAIA, Mars Rovers, New Horizons, and Rosetta to name but a few.
Space Imaging is expanding its portfolio of projects to develop Front End Electronics (FEE) systems for Space applications. The systems will include a CMOS detector, FEE, an FPGA (design code in VHDL), and a Microprocessor (MCU) as a complete system. The new systems require high quality Embedded Software and FPGA Designs to operate in Space with high reliability for 5-year long missions or longer.
Position Summary and Responsibilities:
Teledyne e2v are looking for a Principal FPGA Compliance and Verification Engineer to join their Team. We are seeking a key individual to work within a multi-disciplinary project team comprising of FPGA engineers, electrical hardware engineers, software engineers, and verification engineers. The candidate will be the primary interface between the FPGA functional team and the Product Assurance team.
The primary role will be to drive FPGA development, verification and release processes in line with ECSS standards and requirements, and to ensure those processes are followed throughout the life cycle of the product. The successful candidate will ensure that all FPGA related documentation delivered to the customer meets ECSS standards, and has followed our processes to achieve compliance. This will be achieved through review processes, including source code reviews. A good understanding of the FEE operation will need to be gained, as the candidate will be required to generate test plans and procedures to ensure that the deliveries meet all customer and internal requirements. The ideal candidate will be able to participate in hands-on testing and verification of FPGA deliverables. The engineer will impart ECSS knowledge to the relevant Product Assurance engineer as part of the role of being the interface to Product Assurance.
Essential Experience:
Knowledge of development standards used in Space, Aerospace, or Defence. Preferably ECSS-Q-ST-60-03C and ECSS-E-ST-20-40C.
Previous experience of ensuring compliance across the full FPGA development life cycle.
Verifying robust high reliability coding.
Developing FPGA verification and validation plans and quality assurance procedures.
Experience with version control software such as subversion.
Experience of requirements managements using software tools such as Jama.
Experience with issue tracking software such as Redmine or Jira.
Previous experience developing VHDL FPGA code and using FPGA simulation tools and UVVM testbenches.
Experience writing verification and validation plans.
Methodical approach to verification testing and recording of results.
Must have the ability to communicate well, with a focus on high quality customer facing documentation.
Advantageous Skills & Experience:
Previous experience developing automated test scripts and applications for verifying systems containing embedded software and FPGA code. Preferably using Python.
Previous experience working with imaging systems or cameras
