Requirements
  • A Dental Assistant certification is required, with candidates working toward a Registered Dental Assistant license considered.
  • At least six months of experience as a Dental Assistant is required.
  • At least one year of experience as a Registered Dental Assistant is required.
  • A current X-ray license is required.
  • Experience with EPIC Electronic Health Records is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Ability to assist the Dentist with nitrous oxide sedation and patient management is required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced community health clinic environment is required.
  • Experience working in a multilingual and multicultural setting is required.
  • Ability to explain treatment plans to patients effectively is required.
  • Ability to work with children is required.
  • Intermediate computer-use experience, including Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook, is required.
  • Ability to work evenings and Saturdays is required.
  • Employees must fulfill immunization and fit-for-duty regulatory requirements.
  • Employees may be required to occasionally lift at least 20–25 pounds and perform prolonged standing, stooping, reaching, and pinch-grip activities.
Responsibilities
  • Greet and welcome patients and visitors to the practice.
  • Escort patients to treatment rooms, seat patients, and prepare procedure setups.
  • Verify patient charts and update health information during patient arrival and at the end of appointments.
  • Inform the Dentist when patients are ready for treatment.
  • Accurately record treatment notes in patients' Dentrix Electronic Health Records charts.
  • Perform coronal polishing.
  • Conduct the morning pre-patient staff meeting each day.
  • Check patient schedules daily for accuracy and post them in all treatment rooms.
  • Check the laboratory daily for equipment necessary to treat patients.
  • Check operatories for necessary equipment and prepare next-day supplies.
  • Provide oral hygiene instruction and nutritional counseling to patients.
  • Monitor supply inventory, request supplies as needed, and keep treatment rooms stocked.
  • Comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Dental Board, and clinic policies.
  • Prepare dental units for the Dentist, stock units, and keep them clean.
  • Oversee treatment-room cleanliness according to sterilization procedures.
  • Disinfect treatment rooms according to Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations.
  • Sterilize instruments and headpieces according to Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations.
  • Maintain autoclave machines.
  • Perform weekly water-line maintenance and change traps in operatories.
  • Organize trays, instruments, and treatment-room drawers.
  • Document and post office sterilization procedures.
  • Send out and monitor dental laboratory cases promptly.
  • Implement a preventive maintenance and cleaning schedule for dental equipment.
  • Maintain dental office emergency kits and nitrous oxide tanks.
  • Follow laboratory procedures according to office protocols.
  • Use electronic charting techniques to maintain and update dental records.
  • Track cases and referrals to and from other doctors.
  • Store records securely according to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Assist in administering the recall system.
  • Enter patient insurance information and post fees on the computer for completed procedures.
  • Maintain an active Registered Dental Assistant license through continuing education.

  • Bilingual skills in any language.
