Responsibilities
  • Manage clinical planning, operations, and performance of the orthopaedic subspecialty service.
  • Set and maintain quality standards and provide oversight to the division’s educational environment.
  • Motivate and support the division’s research activities and promote research productivity.
  • Foster the professional development, fulfillment, retention, and wellness of division faculty.
  • Navigate division growth through programmatic planning and recruitment of faculty, midlevel providers, and division-specific staff.
  • Identify threats and opportunities and communicate them to departmental leadership.
  • Develop and align clinical services and division initiatives with the department’s strategic plan.
  • Optimize clinical productivity, resource utilization, financial sustainability, quality, safety, and patient outcomes.
  • Monitor clinical, quality, safety, productivity, and operational benchmarks.
  • Ensure hospital, ambulatory, and on-call coverage meets system standards.
  • Meet with department leadership and convene and lead division meetings.
  • Prepare summary reports and attend required division and leadership meetings.
  • Promote the division’s local, regional, national, and international reputation.
  • Support faculty research interests, publication efforts, society participation, and national leadership.
  • Support and enhance the department’s subspecialty education program.
  • Recruit faculty and staff who support department goals and performance.
  • Mentor junior faculty and help them achieve their personal and professional aspirations.
  • Address faculty issues, improve communication, and create a collaborative division environment.
  • Coordinate faculty participation on hospital and system committees, task forces, and work groups.
  • Support undergraduate, resident, fellowship, and medical student education.
  • Create a learning environment that supports departmental educational goals.
  • Help trainees enhance surgical skills and subspecialty knowledge.
  • Prepare residents and fellows for their chosen practice environments.
  • Provide constructive feedback to faculty regarding teaching skills and the learning environment.
  • Identify potential donors, participate in departmental fundraising, and establish annual funding priorities.
  • Maintain an alumni group.
