Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Social Work, Psychology, Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling, Counseling or Behavioral Science, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
  • At least two years of experience assisting and providing advocacy services to victims of domestic abuse or sexual assault.
  • Ability to obtain the Basic Advocate credential with the Comprehensive Intervention Specialist designation within six months of hiring.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
  • Willingness to comply with government vaccination requirements, including vaccinations for Hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, and influenza, and proof of a negative tuberculosis skin test.
  • Availability for on-call coverage, flexible hours, and a 40-hour work week.
Responsibilities
  • Provide non-clinical emergent and urgent services to Air Force personnel, family members, and intimate partners who are victims of domestic abuse.
  • Provide private and confidential victim support during duty hours and on-call emergency services after duty hours.
  • Empower victims to advocate for themselves and their children, support decision-making by exploring options, and assist with prioritizing actions and establishing short- and long-term goals.
  • Provide information and referrals to military and civilian resources.
  • Establish case-by-case victim safety plans and coordinate with Family Advocacy Treatment Managers, Family Advocacy Intervention Specialists, and mental-health on-call providers when needed.
  • Advise victims about the impact of domestic violence on children and support efforts to have children assessed and treated as needed.
  • Accompany victims to appointments or court proceedings when requested.
  • Collaborate with treatment or case managers to support victims and promote safety for victims and children in the home.
  • Brief the treatment or case manager before the coordinated community response staffing meeting with current information about the victim and children.
  • Develop a process to keep the team lead and designated points of contact informed of the advocate's location and timelines during victim services, including arrival and departure notifications.
  • Evaluate the quality of the installation's coordinated community response and collaborate with base agencies to improve system responses to victims.
  • Establish protocols with the Security Forces Squadron and Office of Special Investigations for 24-hour notification of the advocate in suspected domestic-abuse incidents and collaboration on safety planning.
  • Establish protocols with the Military Treatment Facility for 24-hour notification of the advocate in suspected domestic-abuse incidents and training of facility personnel on the advocate's role.
