Requirements
  • Master's degree in Nursing or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of clinical practice as a Nurse Practitioner is required.
  • Experience working in college health, urgent care, emergency department, or primary care settings preferred.
  • Must be confident in clinical decision-making and capable of managing a population of diverse student presentations.
  • Licensed by the State of Virginia as: 1) Registered Nurse, 2) Nurse Practitioner with Prescription Authority, 4) DEA Certification, 5) Board Certification as a Nurse Practitioner (Family or Adult focus), 6) CPR certified.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical best practices.
  • Effective in working with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Competent with electronic health records.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment/tools (including blood pressure monitor, stethoscope, otoscope, ophthalmoscope, syringes and needles, nebulizer, blood drawing equipment, pulse oximeter, glucose monitor, peak flow device, EKG machine).
  • Ability to perform physical tasks associated with patient care, including minor procedures, treating patients on exam table or floor, responding to medical emergencies, lifting up to 25 pounds, standing for extended periods, and transitioning between tasks in a clinical setting.
Responsibilities
  • Provides health promotion, illness prevention, and patient education.
  • Assesses patient concerns of acute and chronic nature.
  • Performs complete relevant physical examination, provides appropriate management according to standards of care and documents assessment and plan.
  • Obtains medical history.
  • Evaluates therapeutic responses and contacts patients for evaluation of treatment.
  • Prescribes medication as appropriate.
  • Orders and interprets lab work and radiology studies.
  • Participates in health and well-being educational outreach activities.
  • Collaborates with other departments within Student Affairs and the University.
  • Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
