  • Approved MA Certifications: CMA- Certified Medical Assistant - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), RMA- Registered Medical Assistant - American Medical Technologists (AMT), CCMA- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant- National Healthcare Association (NHA), NCMA - National Certified Medical Assistant (NHA - NCCT), NRCMA - Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NAHP)
  • Additional certification: American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for healthcare providers
  • HIV & AIDS Certification: Florida HIV/AIDS Healthcare Professional Continue Education (CE) Certification
  • Minimum of 2 years previous work experience
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes: Strong, effective communication skills with patients, families, and clinical team; Ability to adapt and exhibit flexibility to handle new, different, or changing environments; Demonstrates strong time management skills to prioritize and act proactively; Ability to uphold professional ethics and maintain patient confidentiality
Responsibilities
  • Abides by the standards for ethical behavior, therapeutic communication and protecting the privacy of patient information
  • Demonstrates knowledge of basic medical terminology
  • Assists providers with physical examinations by preparing treatment/exam room with proper supplies, instruments, and materials, as directed
  • Understands the importance of medical and surgical asepsis; Prepares patients for physician’s care with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures
  • Performs routine laboratory tests
  • Performs vital signs, EKG, phlebotomy, and document in patient’s medical record
  • Observes and reports patient’s signs or symptoms changes
  • Administers medication safely as directed by the physician; Assists in patient care activities such as walking
  • Escorts and transports patients to various hospital locations
  • Cleans and/or sterilizes medical instruments while observing principles of sterile technique
  • Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work
  • Provides patient with provider’s care instructions and information
  • Maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation; Orders, stocks, inventories supplies, and assists in performing clerical duties
  • Adheres to University and unit-level Policies & Procedures and safeguards University’s assets
  • Triage UChart In basket messages, which can include creating telephone encounters, and communicating with providers, patients, and other staff members
  • Ensure all related reports, labs and information is filed is available in patients’ medical records prior to their appointment
  • Obtain authorizations for oral medications, diagnostic tests, durable medical equipment (DME), admissions, and other orders as needed
  • Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for lab work
  • Confirmation of patient appointments
  • Maintains accurate and complete patient records/documentation in UChart
  • Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies and assists in performing clerical duties
  • Provides patients with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures
  • May assist with physical examinations by preparing supplies and handing instruments/materials to the doctor as directed
  • Comply with Neurology PQRS workflow
  • Observes the principles of sterile technique in performing duties
  • Obtains vital signs and patient information for inclusion in the patient's medical record
  • May give injections or treatments, perform routine laboratory tests under the direction of an attending physician, and assist in other patient care activities such as dressing changes and leg wraps
  • Escort and transport patients to various hospital locations
  • Supports the coordination of drug infusions
  • Obtain, review, and keep track of all patient demographics, insurance information, and referral numbers
  • Review clinical records for completeness, including authorization, signatures, missing data, and other patient information
