AARCO Design/Build designs and builds warehouses, distribution centers, cold storage, factories, life sciences facilities and data centers for developers and companies across the United States. Warehouse work made its name, and it builds speculative buildings, which developers put up before signing tenants, and build-to-suit facilities for a specific occupant. As a design-build contractor, it is paid as the single firm responsible for a project, from site planning and permitting through construction and commissioning. Its own architects and structural engineers work alongside outside design firms, and project teams manage the trade subcontractors on each job. ARCO Design/Build was founded in 1995 and is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.

ARCO Design/Build broke ground on a 355,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing facility in Hagerstown, Maryland, for Jamison Door Company and its parent, BMP Group. The facility is the first phase of a planned 58-acre North American manufacturing campus. It will combine automation, research and development, and product testing to make cold storage doors, high-speed roll-up doors, dock levelers, and aircraft hangar doors. It will also add US production for certain European BMP Group brands. Jamison has supplied door systems to ARCO as a subcontractor for about 30 years. "ARCO was a natural choice," said BMP Group chief executive officer Danilo Benotto. The first phase should be finished in the first quarter of 2028. Planning for a second phase has begun.

ARCO Design/Build breaks ground on new OPW manufacturing facility in Smithfield, NC. Jul 21, 2026, 11:07 ET The expansion marks a significant investment in Johnston County, increasing manufacturing capacity and strengthening OPW's ability to meet growing customer demand. RALEIGH, N.C., July 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ - ARCO Design/Build announced that it held a groundbreaking ceremony on July 17 for a new manufacturing facility for OPW in Smithfield, North Carolina. OPW, A Dover Company, manufactures retail fueling equipment, containment, and dispensing products used in retail and commercial fueling applications. Located directly adjacent to OPW's existing Smithfield operation, the new facility will allow the company to expand in place as it responds to increased customer demand. The new plant is designed to increase production capacity while supporting the company's long-term growth. The project represents an important manufacturing investment in Johnston County and reinforces OPW's continued commitment to North Carolina. By choosing to stay and grow beside its current operation, OPW is strengthening its long-standing presence in Smithfield while creating the additional capacity needed to serve customers more efficiently. "OPW's decision to expand in Smithfield is a strong reflection of both its commitment to Johnston County and the continued momentum of advanced manufacturing across the region," said Mike Moriarty, Director of Business Development at ARCO Design/Build. "Our team worked closely with OPW to develop a design-build solution that provided greater confidence around cost, schedule, and overall project delivery, and we're proud to help bring this important expansion to life." "Smithfield has been a great home for OPW, and this investment reflects both our confidence in the future and our commitment to the community," said Greg Kennedy, Vice President of Operations at OPW. "By expanding our manufacturing footprint, we're creating the capacity needed to support our customers, strengthen our operations, and position the business for continued growth in the years ahead." ARCO was selected for the project based on its technical expertise, quality, and ability to deliver an accelerated schedule. While the opportunity initially followed a more traditional guaranteed-max-price (GMAX) procurement path, ARCO's design-build approach provided a more integrated delivery model with the price certainty and schedule advantages needed to support OPW's growth objectives. ARCO has a long-standing history of working alongside Johnston County and its municipalities to support responsible industrial growth. Across the county, the company has completed 22 ground-up construction projects totaling more than 4.4 million square feet. This experience reflects ARCO's continued commitment to the region and its focus on delivering reliable results through strong local partnerships. About 75 business and civic leaders joined OPW executives and representatives of ARCO Design/Build on Friday to break ground on a major expansion to OPW's operations near Johnston Regional Airport on US Highway 70 Business. The company, part of Illinois-based Dover Corp [NYSE: DOV], is a leading global provider of fluid transfer solutions, including retail fueling systems. ARCO Design/Build, an experienced leader in Johnston County industrial real estate, is OPW's architectural and construction partner for the expansion. "This is a big deal," said Michael McCann, Vice President and General Manager at OPW, citing Johnston County's business environment and excellent workforce. OPW maintains plants in China, Malaysia, Sweden and the United Kingdom. "But this is the headquarters," McCann said, "and that's not random." Since acquiring the Smithfield facility in 2006, OPW has grown its local workforce from 50 to about 500. "It's a great North Carolina story, and it wouldn't be possible without the support of the community, government officials and our employees," said McCann, who has been involved in the facility's management for the last two decades. Greg Kennedy, Vice President of Operations at OPW, spoke of the support his company gets from local government in Johnston County, the Economic Development Office, the Clayton Chamber of Commerce, and OPW employees. "Johnston County is very important to OPW," Kennedy said. "The people in this area make things so easy." Turnover at the company's Smithfield facility, for example, is a scant five percent, he added. "Johnston Community Collegehas done tremendous things for us," Kennedy added. "We have great training programs we've developed in partnership with JCC that help educate kids in this area." Earlier this year, ARCO joined Blue Steel Development in breaking ground on Steel 70, a three-building industrial complex in Clayton that will accommodate distribution, warehousing and light manufacturing operations. "The reason I love being here is because the community is great," said Matt Hohorst, Chief Construction Officer at ARCO Design/Build, noting that after opening its Raleigh office, the firm's first project was in Johnston County. "We kind of fell in love with it then," Hohorst recalled. OPW's expansion comes just nine days after officials from AdvanceTEC and its new French sister corporation, Pierre Guerin, broke ground on a $7.5 million expansion that adds 32,000 - square-foot to its Clayton manufacturing footprint. "While Johnston County works hard to maintain its unique community roots, our economy has a global reach that attracts investment dollars and jobs from around the U.S. and the world," explained Ed Aldridge, chairman of the Johnston County Economic Development Advisory Board. "Not all business destinations can say that. We can because our leadership has extraordinary vision, our neighborhoods are warm and welcoming, and our growing workforce is unbeatable," Aldridge said. OPW's global footprint includes sales offices on six continents. Its Retail Fueling business is a leading producer of innovative fuel dispensing, transfer and secondary containment solutions. The company is ISO-9000 certified and utilizes Lean Manufacturing and rigid Six Sigma Quality Systems to maximize quality throughout the entire product life cycle.
