Google expands U.S. digital wellbeing fund to boost teen mental health. Google.org is enhancing its efforts to support the mental health of teenagers and equip families with the necessary tools to safely navigate the digital world. The organization has increased its digital wellbeing fund to over $50 million with a focus on helping children and teens use the internet safely and positively. To achieve this, Google is collaborating with organizations such as Active Minds and the Child Mind Institute. These partnerships aim to improve mental health literacy and offer new digital tools designed to provide emotional support. The initiatives seek to encourage healthier technology habits and to address issues of social isolation among young people across the United States. Part of the $50 million fund is dedicated to developing tools that promote mental health and teach positive digital habits. This includes creating new apps for journaling and programs that empower young people to advocate for their own wellbeing. The goal is to ensure that technology serves as a tool for growth rather than a hindrance. Growing up in today's connected world requires safe online exploration and learning, and Google believes every child should have the opportunity to do so. The increased funding is intended to support a healthier and more resilient generation of children and teenagers. Google acknowledges that online safety is a collective responsibility. Therefore, they support child development and mental health experts to provide valuable resources for families and maintain a safe digital environment for everyone. One example of their work includes an event held with Highlights for Children in Columbus, Ohio. During this event, second-grade students participated in educational games and puzzles designed to teach skills such as creating strong passwords, the importance of taking breaks from screens, and demonstrating kindness online. The expansion of digital safety and wellbeing support for teenagers introduces new interventions that focus on best practices for healthy technology interactions. In Altadena, California, Google.org and Active Minds launched a national youth-led mental health and digital wellbeing movement with a workshop at The Eaton Fire Collaborative. Speakers included Senior Director of Health Megan Jones Bell, Assemblymember John Harabedian, Active Minds' Brandi Pretlow, and local student leaders. From supporting child development and mental health experts to implementing robust parental controls and dedicated features across its platforms, Google is committed to creating supportive, respectful, and protective environments. This ensures that children and teenagers can fully embrace the learning, connection, and innovation opportunities offered by technology.
Active Minds, a nonprofit mobilising youth mental health advocacy, has received a $1 million grant from Google to address Gen Z mental health and digital wellbeing. The funding will expand the organisation's "Your Voice is Your Power" Resource Hub, a digital platform helping young people advocate for mental health in schools, families and communities. Originally developed during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Hub has already reached thousands of youth. The grant will fund storytelling training campaigns, regional summits across high schools and college campuses, and enhanced digital resources, particularly for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ youth. The expanded initiative is expected to impact approximately 300,000 young people nationwide over the next two years through digital outreach and peer-led workshops.
Active Minds launches "Your Voice is Your Power" Resource Hub with $1 million grant from Google to address gen Z Mental Health and Digital wellbeing. PR Newswire Today at 7:54am PDT Equipping Youth and Young Adults in Mental Health Advocacy and Digital Well-Being WASHINGTON, April 2, 2026 /PRNewswire/ - Active Minds, the nation's leading nonprofit mobilizing youth and young adults to transform mental health norms, has been awarded a $1 million grant from Google to address youth and young mental health and digital wellbeing. With this funding, Active Minds will enhance and broaden its work in this space and will further catapult the impact of its groundbreaking "Your Voice is Your Power" (YVYP) Resource Hub, a digital platform now helping youth advocate for mental health and build digital wellbeing in their schools, families, and communities. The YVYP Resource Hub, originally developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, has already provided thousands of youth with the tools, resources, and peer support they need to address mental health challenges. This new funding from Google accelerates the Hub's expansion, deepening Active Minds' commitment to providing youth - especially BIPOC and LGBTQ+ youth - with access to educational materials, peer-led resources, and opportunities to advocate for mental health in meaningful ways. Together, these efforts will power a broader initiative that includes a new storytelling training and campaign, regional summits hosted across high schools and college campuses, and an expanded Your Voice is Your Power Resource Hub. "We're incredibly grateful for Google's support, which allows us to expand the reach and capabilities of digital technology, equipping even more youth and young adults with digital wellbeing knowledge and resources to support their efforts in leading the conversation on mental health," said Alison Malmon, Founder & Executive Director of Active Minds. "This funding helps us further amplify youth voices, provide stronger digital tools for mental health advocacy, and foster peer connections that drive lasting change." With this support from Google, Active Minds will enhance its work in this space, using the support over the next two years to integrate a robust, multi-faceted peer-to-peer mobilization initiative across its vast youth and young adult network and key programs. These new components make the Hub a more dynamic, engaging, and accessible resource, encouraging youth and young adults to engage not only as learners but as leaders in the mental health space. "Youth and young adults want and should be heard, and that's exactly what the Your Voice is Your Power Resource Hub is designed to support," said Laura Horne, Chief Programming Officer at Active Minds. "By centering storytelling, we're giving young people the tools to share their lived experiences and drive real change - championing a new era of mental health led by youth voices." Through digital outreach and peer-led workshops - and building on the success of two regional summits (Amplify Summit Los Angeles and Amplify Summit Tampa) already hosted to expand the Hub's reach in schools and campuses - the expanded Hub is expected to impact an estimated 300,000 youth and young adults nationwide. About Active Minds: Active Minds is the largest nonprofit in the United States mobilizing youth and young adults to transform mental health norms across society. For more than 20 years, we have equipped the next generation of peer mental health advocates through a variety of programs, including the Active Minds Chapter Network, A.S.K., and Send Silence Packing.
