Conan O'Brien is hosting educational videos for an AI cybersecurity company. At long last, a corporate training you might actually enjoy. Cybersecurity AI company Adaptive Security has partnered with famed comedian Conan O'Brien for a 15-part educational video series. These training videos will help Adaptive's clients and their employees to navigate threats such as phishing and deepfakes. Considering how often corporate trainings are a total snoozefest, getting a genuinely funny and smart person to present this critical information seems like a smart, if expensive, move. The clip currently promoting the partnership on Adaptive's website even kicks off with a joke about O'Brien only doing the gig for the money. More broadly, it's great to see a business investing in this type of education to ensure that people really do follow best practices for online safety. The FTC said social media scams cost Americans at least $2.1 billion last year. Companies that might have access to even bigger bank accounts, not to mention sensitive information, make for even juicier targets. And AI tools can make cons awfully convincing and easier to pull off. Luckily, there are plenty of common sense rules you can follow to keep the troublemakers at bay. Woodbridge Technologies, LLC is not lucky enough to have Conan narrating them, but just queue up the monorail episode of The Simpsons to play in the background while you read some of Engadget's top cybersecurity tips for a near-identical experience.
Adaptive Security has partnered with comedian Conan O'Brien to create security awareness training videos addressing AI-powered threats. The collaboration includes 15 modules covering deepfakes, voice cloning, AI impersonation, phishing, and other security risks, with O'Brien co-writing scripts and improvising content. The partnership responds to growing engagement problems in corporate security training. Adaptive Security reported that over half its enterprise customers have experienced deepfake attacks, whilst Deloitte projects AI-facilitated fraud losses in the US will reach $40 billion by 2027, up from $12.3 billion in 2023. O'Brien's comedic approach aims to combat AI attacks that exploit urgency and panic by training employees to pause before acting. The company, which has raised over $140 million from investors including Bain Capital Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz, serves more than 1,000 enterprise customers.
Adaptive Security has launched free public training resources to help protect older adults from AI-enabled scams, including voice cloning, deepfake videos and impersonation fraud. The course is available at no cost in 14 languages, including all official United Nations languages. Americans aged 60 and older lost an estimated $81 billion to fraud last year, according to federal data. The training features guidance from cybersecurity and law enforcement experts, including Brady Finta, former FBI agent and founder of the National Elder Fraud Coordination Center. The course includes real-world examples and victim stories, such as Gary Schildhorn, who narrowly avoided sending money after receiving a call using his son's cloned voice. Adaptive Security, which provides AI-powered social engineering prevention solutions, previously partnered with TIME100 honoree Elliston Berry on educational resources addressing deepfake abuse targeting children.

Adaptive Security raises $81M to expand AI-driven social engineering defense platform. Social engineering defense startup Adaptive Security Inc. today revealed that it has raised $81 million in new funding to expand its platform and accelerate product development. Founded in 2024, Adaptive is taking on the threat of artificial intelligence-powered social engineering with a mission to protect organizations from next-generation threats that exploit human trust rather than technical vulnerabilities. The company offers an AI-driven simulation platform that uses advanced models to generate realistic, multichannel attack scenarios that mirror how actual AI-enabled threats behave. The simulations cover email phishing, SMS attacks and voice deepfake vectors to expose employees to the kinds of deceptive tactics that are increasingly used by adversaries. Along with simulation and training, Adaptive's platform continuously assesses real-time risk across an organization's workforce by measuring how individuals respond to simulated threats. The platform monitors when employees fall for a simulated deepfake or phishing attempt, updates their risk profile and can automatically delivers targeted training to strengthen weaknesses. Core to the company's offering is a focus on human-centric training and behavior change. The company's tools provide contextualized learning experiences that teach employees how to recognize AI-enhanced deception in the wild instead of just alerting the information technology department when someone fails a test. The training is continuously updated to keep pace with emerging attack techniques by blending educational content with practical, hands-on exposure to realistic threat scenarios. "Our task is to give organizations clarity in a landscape that is changing extremely quickly," explained co-founder and Chief Executive Brian Long. "The threat is evolving in real time. Our responsibility is to move at least as fast." Since its public launch in January this year, Adaptive has grown to more than 500 enterprise customers. Notable customers include PayPal Holdings Inc., Xerox Holdings Corp., Bose Corp., the National Hockey League, the Professional Golfers' Association of America, Figma Inc., Ramp Business Corp., Vimeo Inc., TaylorMade Golf Co. Inc. and Perplexity AI Inc. The Series B round was led by Bain Capital Ventures LP, with NVentures (Nvidia Corp.'s venture capital arm), the OpenAI Startup Fund LP, Andreessen Horowitz, Abstract Ventures, Capital One Ventures and Citi Ventures Inc. also participating. "The surge in AI-enabled threat vectors has elevated human-layer security to a board-level priority and Adaptive is emerging as the platform organizations rely on to stay ahead of these threats," said Enrique Salem, partner at Bain Capital Ventures. Adaptive had previously raised rounds of $43 million in April and $12 million in September. Photo: Adaptive Security.
