AirTrunk

Manages hyperscale data centers for cloud

Overview

AirTrunk builds and runs large-scale data center campuses in the Asia-Pacific and Japan region to support cloud computing, content delivery, and large enterprise clients. Its hyperscale facilities house the physical infrastructure—space and power—needed for cloud services, delivering reliable, energy-efficient data center capacity under long-term lease contracts with major cloud providers. The company designs, constructs, and operates these campuses to provide scalable, predictable infrastructure for customers who require substantial storage and processing capacity. AirTrunk differentiates itself by focusing on APJ regional expertise, large-scale campus design, and emphasis on reliability and energy efficiency to meet hyperscale demand. Its goal is to accelerate the growth of cloud services across the APJ region by offering scalable, sustainable digital infrastructure through long-term partnerships with cloud service providers.

AirTrunk nears $1B sale of Johor data center asset to KWAP.

AirTrunk nears $1B sale of Johor data center asset to KWAP. 2026-10-15 10:25:19 Key takeaways. * AirTrunk nears $1 billion sale of Johor data center asset to KWAP, Malaysia's national pension fund, reported October 15, 2026. * AirTrunk closed $2.3 billion green loan for JHB2 in July 2026, its largest single-asset financing to date. * AirTrunk postponed REIT plans amid challenging market environment with delayed fundraising and listings. AirTrunk is reportedly close to selling one of its data center assets in Johor, Malaysia, at an estimated valuation of $1 billion, with buyers including KWAP, Malaysia's national pension fund, according to a report on October 15, 2026. The transaction comes as the selloff in AI-linked equities and rising interest rates have delayed fundraising and listings across the data center sector. AirTrunk, a hyperscale data center platform majority-owned by Blackstone and CPPIB following their $16.1 billion acquisition in 2024, has postponed its own real estate investment trust (REIT) plans amid the challenging market environment. AirTrunk expands Johor data center footprint across four campuses. AirTrunk has been building aggressively in Johor, the Malaysian state bordering Singapore, with several campuses at various stages of development. The first campus, JHB1, began operating in July 2024 and targets more than 150 MW of capacity. JHB2 is currently in development and targets over 270 MW of IT load. JHB3 and JHB4 were announced on April 30, 2026, and together are expected to add more than 280 MW to AirTrunk's Johor footprint. In July 2026, AirTrunk closed a $2.3 billion green loan for JHB2, the firm's largest single-asset financing to date, with the International Finance Corporation participating with up to $175 million. Johor hosts 28 data center sites across 16 operators. As of October 15, 2026, 28 data center sites were being tracked in Johor across 16 operators, with a combined planned capacity of 1,210 MW. AirTrunk ranks among the leaders in potential capacity within that group. Faq. What did AirTrunk announce on October 15, 2026? AirTrunk secures $1.24B green loan for Tokyo data center expansion to over 300MW

AirTrunk has secured a ¥191.6 billion (US$1.21 billion) green loan to refinance debt and fund expansion of its TOK1 hyperscale data centre campus in eastern Tokyo. The facility will support additional phases of TOK1, which can ultimately expand to more than 300 MW of capacity. Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp., MUFG, Crédit Agricole CIB and Société Générale acted as global coordinators. Twelve banks participated as mandated lead arrangers and bookrunners. The company recently began construction on an expansion adding more than 100 MW of IT capacity to meet near-term customer demand driven by artificial intelligence and cloud services growth. AirTrunk's total investment in Japan has surpassed ¥1.2 trillion (US$8 billion) across existing and planned projects. Its four Japanese campuses are expected to provide about 530 MW of total capacity when fully built.

Blackstone-Backed AirTrunk to invest $1 billion in Japan data centre campus for AI workloads.

Blackstone-Backed AirTrunk to invest $1 billion in Japan data centre campus for AI workloads. 8 Oct 2026 By: IDCNOVA Region: East Asia AirTrunk, the hyperscale data centre operator backed by Blackstone, announced on Wednesday that it will invest an additional $1 billion in its flagship campus in Inzai, a city in eastern Japan, to equip the site for artificial intelligence workloads. The investment marks a significant escalation in the company's commitment to Japan's rapidly growing digital infrastructure market and underscores the broader shift in the Asia-Pacific region toward AI-optimized data centre capacity. The Inzai campus, known as TOK1, currently supports more than 300 megawatts of capacity and has traditionally been used for cloud services workloads. With the new capital injection, AirTrunk will deploy liquid-cooling technology across the campus to accommodate the high-density computing requirements of AI training and inference. According to CEO Robin Khuda, TOK1 is likely to become the first data centre campus in Japan to host large-scale AI workload deployments. The decision to expand in Japan reflects a broader trend of customers seeking alternatives to traditional North Asian hubs. "Due to geopolitical reasons, we are seeing more and more customers looking to Japan from a North Asian perspective," Khuda said. He further noted that deploying AI infrastructure is becoming increasingly difficult in the United States and is already challenging in Europe, making Asia a "big beneficiary" of the global AI infrastructure buildout. The $1 billion investment will cover the retrofitting and expansion of cooling systems, power delivery infrastructure, and related facilities needed to support the demanding thermal and energy requirements of AI hardware. Liquid cooling, which is far more efficient than traditional air-based systems for high-density racks, is becoming a critical enabler for next-generation data centres running GPU-intensive AI models. Japan has emerged as a key destination for data centre investment in the Asia-Pacific region, driven by strong enterprise demand, government support for digital transformation, and its strategic location relative to other North Asian markets. AirTrunk's expanded commitment to the Inzai campus positions the company to capture a growing share of the region's AI infrastructure spending, even as competition among hyperscale operators intensifies across Japan and neighboring markets.
