AkzoNobel cuts 75 jobs, closes Nashville factory. Posted: Oct 12, 2026 / 11:25 AM CDT Updated: Oct 12, 2026 / 04:14 PM CDT NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) - A Nashville manufacturing plant is closing and 75 jobs will be eliminated. In a statement Monday, Dulux paint maker AkzoNobel confirmed the closure of its Nashville powder coatings plant by the end of the year. "The announcement applies only to the Powder Coatings manufacturing plant in Nashville. Nashville remains an important location for AkzoNobel, with more than 117 employees continuing to work from the company's regional headquarters in functions including sales, marketing, finance and other business support areas." -AkzoNobel Spokesperson The statement goes on to explain that the closure is part of the company's 2023 Industrial Excellence program, which is focused in part on on "optimizing operations" and "reducing complexity." Current production volumes will be absorbed by the company's powder coatings manufacturing sites in Reading, Pennsylvania; Warsaw, Indiana; and Monterrey, Mexico. The company does not expect the Nashville plant closure to interrupt supply to North American customers. AkzoNobel's announcement comes as the Dutch company awaits approval from the European Union to merge with its U.S. peer, Axalta Coating Systems. AkzoNobel reportedly pledged to sell its vehicle refinishing business by the end of the year to secure approval for the $25 billion merger. The program that resulted in the closure of the Nashville plant is not being impacted by the proposed merger with Axalta, according to an AkzoNobel spokesperson. According to August data from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, chemical manufacturing jobs slipped 2.6% over the past year. In 2022, News 2 reported on an explosion at the Nashville AkzoNobel plant caused by a mistaken delivery of organic peroxide. Everyone was able to evacuate without injury.

AkzoNobel's US$1.35bil decorative paints sale to Nippon Paint to complete mid-2027. Tuesday, 06 Oct 2026 | 12:54 PM MYT KUALA LUMPUR: AkzoNobel's US$1.35 billion sale of its decorative paints businesses to Nippon Paint is expected to be completed mid-2027, except for the Indonesian business, which is expected to be completed separately later this year. Global law firm Baker McKenzie, which advised AkzoNobel on the transaction, said the deal is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. "Having already sold its Deco businesses in India and Pakistan, the planned divestments mark the conclusion of AkzoNobel's decorative paints portfolio review in Southeast and South Asia," it said in a statement. The law firm said the "highly complex, multi-jurisdictional" transaction required close coordination across jurisdictions, workstreams and legal disciplines. AkzoNobel said on Monday it had agreed to sell its Decorative Paints businesses in Southeast Asia and other markets to Nippon Paint, covering operations in Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Papua New Guinea and Australia. - Bernama
