Applied Atomics, a developer of full-stack nuclear power plants, has raised $8.3 million in an oversubscribed seed round. The Los Angeles-based company is designing 100MW to 1GW nuclear power plants co-located with large infrastructure campuses, using light-water reactor architecture. The startup plans to own and operate its plants, delivering electricity under long-term power purchase agreements. It's working with early customers to secure locations for 10GW of planned capacity. The funding will support testing and integration, supply chain development, and engineering integration. Applied Atomics has completed initial systems validation milestones on its SimBox digital twin platform, testing plant control logic and safety responses with supply chain components. The round was co-led by Transition, with participation from Alpaca VC. The company aims to address nuclear deployment challenges through integrated delivery rather than fragmented project models.
