American Auto Shield

American Auto Shield

Vehicle service contracts administrator & insurer

Overview

American Auto Shield provides vehicle service contracts that help car owners cover repair costs after the original warranty expires. It uses a subscription model where customers pay regular fees for coverage, and the company handles claims, verifies issues, and pays the repair shop directly. It competes in the third-party auto warranty market with nationwide coverage and centralized claim management, though it faces mixed customer feedback and complaints about denials and service. Its goal is to reduce the financial risk of unexpected car repairs by offering contract-based protection beyond the manufacturer’s warranty.
