Battelle's RavenStar Ultra-Wideband Massive MIMO Radio Unit has been awarded a contract with the National Spectrum Consortium in partnership with the Department of War. The company will collaborate with Northeastern University's Kostas Research Institute and other partners on the Advanced Spectrum Coexistence Demonstration Programme. The initiative aims to validate spectrum-sharing solutions that would allow telecommunications providers to access military mid-band frequencies (3.1–3.45 GHz) without interfering with national security operations. RavenStar's technology can rapidly shift frequencies, adapt beam patterns and avoid interference in real time. Battelle will provide hardware delivery, integration support and software collaboration throughout the programme. The project seeks to expand wireless capacity for civilian services whilst maintaining military operational capabilities and improving overall spectrum efficiency.

RavenStar's technology enables real-time frequency shifting and beam pattern adaptation to prevent interference. The initiative seeks to expand civilian wireless capacity whilst maintaining critical military operations, addressing growing demand for high-speed connectivity without compromising national security.
Battelle has hired Christopher Hill and Marcia Pincus to strengthen its Surface Transportation Practice within the Infrastructure Safety and Security Division. The appointments aim to enhance the organisation's support for federal transportation priorities and innovation in transportation operations, safety and intelligent mobility. Hill brings extensive experience in systems engineering, transportation operations and intelligent transportation systems, with a track record in complex, multi-stakeholder environments. Pincus has over 20 years of experience leading US Department of Transportation programmes, including research and development portfolios for connected and automated vehicles, roadway safety and digital infrastructure. The Surface Transportation Practice provides consulting, research, engineering and programme management solutions to government agencies, focusing on intelligent transportation systems, infrastructure safety, connectivity and autonomy, and data-driven decision-making.
University, INL sign SUPER pact. Utah State University and Battelle Energy Alliance inked a memorandum of understanding for a Strategic Understanding for Premier Education and Research (SUPER) agreement, formalizing and expanding the university's collaboration with Battelle's parent organization, Idaho National Laboratory (INL). This agreement "strengthens joint efforts in energy, security technology, and research" and supports USU's role in the state's goal to double Utah's energy-generating capacity by 2035, which includes plans for a nuclear facility in northern Utah, according to the university. One part of the agreement will include research into services supporting nuclear power, such as nuclear material recycling, product separation, waste monitoring, radiation detection, energy storage systems, and environmental engineering and modeling. "The partnership through SUPER places Utah State at the forefront of discovery for meeting Utah's energy needs," said USU President Brad L. Mortensen. It will also include developing tools for the extraction and processing of critical minerals. There will also be research on automation, control, and cybersecurity of machinery and vehicles. "Idaho National Laboratory is pleased to enter into this agreement as it marks an important step forward in our partnership and creates new opportunities to expand the capacity, efficiency, and impact of critical research initiatives," said INL Deputy Lab Director Todd Combs. Additionally, "INL and USU will collaborate on research, host joint workshops and conferences, and establish a joint appointment program to enhance research and academic collaborations." Source: USU/Taylor Emerson INL currently has SUPER agreements with 13 universities, and USU is the third in Utah on the list, joining Brigham Young University and the University of Utah. According to the lab, the documents "establish a framework for INL and the respective institutions to formalize the parties' interest in developing and improving applied and advanced energy technologies and infrastructure" and is "less formal than a contract but more binding than a handshake."
