Better Together has hired Angela Bonds as its new director of external partnerships and government affairs. In the new role, Bonds will oversee strategic relationships with employers, churches, community organizations and other partners as Better Together works to expand opportunities for Florida families. "Better Together has built an incredible model that brings people together to strengthen families before they reach a crisis," Bonds said. "I'm honored to join an organization that believes lasting change happens through collaboration. I look forward to working alongside government leaders, employers, churches and community partners across Florida to create more opportunities for parents, support families in need and ensure children can grow up in safe, loving homes." Bonds spent many years serving in Florida state government, developing experience in legislative affairs, public policy, government relations and strategic partnerships. Her work included collaborating with members of the Legislature, state agencies, local governments and other stakeholders on policy initiatives and the legislative process. Better Together also credited Bonds with advising executive leadership and building partnerships across the public and private sectors. Better Together CEO Megan Rose said Bonds' government and public-policy experience will help the organization expand its partnerships across Florida. "Angela's passion for serving families and her proven ability to bring people together make her an outstanding addition to the Better Together team," Rose said. Drew Wilson. Drew Wilson is Vice President of Florida Politics, where he helps lead a talented team that produces must-read newsletters including Sunburn, Takeaways from Tallahassee, and Diagnosis. A University of Florida alumnus, he began his career at The Independent Florida Alligator - the nation's largest student-run newspaper and a training ground for many of Florida's top political reporters. He later served as a business correspondent for The Hollywood Reporter, then returned to Tallahassee to cover the state economy and Legislature for LobbyTools and The Florida Current, before segueing to Florida Politics, where he's been for more than a decade. He spends too much time workshopping zingers for Capitol Directions - and not enough time outdoors.

Better Together, a nonprofit on a mission to build strong families and communities, is partnering with Crosstown Fellowship Church in Port St. Lucie to host a community job fair on Saturday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration is now open for job seekers and employers to participate in the June event. With a spirit of hope and celebration, the church-based job fairs empower job seekers by connecting them with local employers who are ready to hire, while offering supportive services that foster meaningful connections and increase opportunities for lasting employment. Free one-on-one job coaching sessions are available to participants to review resumes, and additional services will be available onsite. The June 27 job fair will take place at Crosstown Fellowship Church, located at 1885 SW Del Rio Blvd. in Port St. Lucie. Better Together receives $25,000 grant from The Women's Giving Circle of Southwest Florida. Better Together, a nonprofit dedicated to families and children, has received a $25,000 grant from The Women's Giving Circle of Southwest Florida, a fund of the Collier Community Foundation, to support the children and families it serves in Lee and Collier counties. These funds will support Better Together's Better Families program, which builds strong families and prevents the need for foster care by empowering parents with meaningful connections, work opportunities, mentoring and short-term care for children. "Our mission centers around the power of collective giving to create meaningful, lasting change for women, children and families in our community," said Lesley Hill, co-chair of The Women's Giving Circle of Southwest Florida. "Better Together's commitment to keeping families intact and building resilience from within is a testament to what's possible when relationships come first. We are proud to support their work helping parents navigate hardship while building brighter futures for their families." Better Together works to prevent the need for foster care by building strong families and communities. When a parent needs support - due to homelessness, a medical emergency, or other crisis - Better Together volunteer host families provide a safe, loving home for the children short term, while staff and mentors empower the parents to secure employment, housing and other needs. Because job loss is at the root of most family crises, the Better Together workforce program provides opportunities for all job seekers through relational job fairs and volunteer job coaches.
