Bloomington-Normal YMCA

Non-profit community wellness and youth programs

Overview

The Bloomington-Normal YMCA is a nonprofit that runs programs for community wellness, youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, including childcare, summer camps, youth sports, swim lessons, and health classes at a 2022, 76,000-square-foot facility. Membership and program fees fund access to the center’s pools, wellness spaces, courts, track, and studios, while philanthropy helps keep services affordable and accessible for people with mobility challenges. It differs from others by serving as a community hub that combines recreation, childcare, youth programs, and adaptive services under one roof, and by partnering with Easterseals Central Illinois and OSF HealthCare to enhance accessibility for about 5,000 McLean County residents. Its goal is to put Christian principles into practice by promoting a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.

YMCA Aquatics Department recognized as Top Training Provider by the American Red Cross. May 4, 2026 The Bloomington-Normal YMCA is proud to announce that its Aquatics Department has been recognized by the American Red Cross as a Top Training Provider, an honor awarded to organizations that demonstrate exceptional commitment to community safety through lifesaving education. Each year, the American Red Cross recognizes top training providers across the country who play a vital role in delivering critical safety certifications. These providers are categorized based on the number of individuals they certify annually, with distinctions for organizations issuing more than 200, 500, and 1,000 certifications. Through its aquatics and safety programs, the Bloomington-Normal YMCA certified 321 individuals in the past year in essential skills such as CPR, First Aid, Lifeguarding, and Babysitting - placing the organization among the Red Cross's top providers. These programs not only equip participants with the knowledge to respond in emergencies but also help build a safer, more prepared community. "We're proud to play a role in making our community safer. When we train lifeguards, parents, and young people in CPR and first aid, we're not just teaching skills; we're empowering people to save lives," said Tim Ready, Senior Director of Aquatics at the BN-YMCA.
