Skullcandy and Bose reunite for the new Crusher 1080 ANC, a headphone full of firsts.

Skullcandy and Bose reunite for the new Crusher 1080 ANC, a headphone full of firsts. When you want to take your bass from subtle to sensory, the new Crusher 1080 ANC with Sound by Bose makes it easier to dial in more thud, less mud. Published Jul 15, 2026 8:00 PM EDT Product news, reviews, and must-have deals. In April 2025, "agents" (and executives) from Park City, Utah-based personal audio company Skullcandy assembled in New York under the direction of brand ambassador Tony Hawk to stage a "SoundHeist." Though, truth be told, it was more of a silence heist, as the big reveal was a partnership with Bose to bring advanced active noise cancellation to affordable earbuds. Now, 15 months later, the masterminds behind this sonic scheme have reconvened on stage at Capitale in NYC for a caper with even higher stakes. The Method 360 ANC earbuds saw Skullcandy breaking into the Sound by Bose vault, but it was quickly a crowded strongbox with similar releases by Noise and Baseus, among others. So for its latest operation, Skullcandy has gone for the crown jewels. The new Crusher 1080 ANC ($279.99 MSRP) is the first non-Bose headphone to feature QuietControl adaptive ANC (six mics, real-time fit-and-seal monitoring), Bose TrueSpatial spatial audio with head tracking for more immersive soundstaging, and the Bose WaveForm audio engine that keeps things full and balanced without letting distortion crash the mix. But there's more that makes this upgrade to Skullcandy's flagship bass headphones a multidimensional experience, because this is a Crusher with Sound by Bose, not just a Bose in disguise. The Crusher 1080 ANC still features dual drivers with one dedicated to ramping up the rumble. But cranking that haptics wheel in the past has cost some clarity. Skullcandy claims to have addressed this with a newly developed "live edge" diaphragm made of stiffer material, so its pistonic motion is more controlled. This should mean increased fidelity to match the feel. Feeding the Crusher 1080 ANC is Bluetooth 5.3 + LE Audio with Auracast and up to 60 hours of battery life with ANC mode turned off (50 hours with ANC mode turned on). Available now in four colorways - black, candy [pink], primer [khaki], and cement [grey], visible near the bottom of the page - the flat-folding and collapsible Crusher 1080 ANC comes with a lined rolltop bag that's easy to clip to a backpack or stash when you don't need it. 2025 PopSci Best of What's New The 50 most important innovations of the year

Skullcandy's bass-boosting Crusher headphones now come with Bose's ANC.

Skullcandy's bass-boosting Crusher headphones now come with Bose's ANC. Wednesday, 15 July 2026 Skullcandy announced a new version of its Crusher wireless headphones today featuring a few of Bose's audio technologies including its QuietControl ANC and head-tracking spatial audio. The Crusher headphone line differentiates itself from the competition through the use of both full-range and dedicated bass drivers in each ear cup to boost deeper frequencies. Skullcandy admits that approach can result in a loss of audio quality when the bass is heavily boosted, but its new Crusher 1080 ANC are meant to address and improve that with Bose's help. Available starting today for $279.99 in black, candy, primer, and cement color options, the new Crusher 1080 ANC feature redesigned drivers with a stiffer diaphragm material resulting in enhanced clarity and detail with less distortion at higher volume. As with previous models in the Crusher line, the bass boosting is entirely adjustable using Skullcandy's mobile app or the on-headphone controls that now include a more prominent dial on the outside. The Crusher 1080 ANC are now available in black, cement, primer, and candy color options.Image: Skullcandy The Crusher 1080 ANC will be the first non-Bose headphones to feature that company's TrueSpatial audio technology with head tracking that works whether you're stationary or out for a run and its WaveForm audio engine that "keeps audio full, balanced, and smooth." Skullcandy's latest will also offer industry-leading noise cancellation with Bose's six microphone QuietControl ANC tech that adapts as sounds around you get louder or quieter. The Crusher 1080ANC even features Bose's SpeechClarity that reduces noise so your voice comes through clearly during a call, but they're not the first third-party headphones to offer it. A control dial is now positioned more prominently on the outside of the headphones, alongside other customizable controls.Image: Skullcandy Battery life is estimated to be up to 60 hours with ANC turned off, or 50 hours with it on, while a 10-minute rapid charge will keep the Crusher 1080 ANC going for up to four hours if they die. There's multipoint pairing for connecting and switching between multiple devices, auto reconnect and wear detection that pauses music when you take the headphones off, and a design that folds flat for easier storage. The Crusher 1080 ANC supports Bluetooth 5.3 with LE Audio, low latency audio, and Auracast. Why clip-on earphones are the fastest-growing trend of 2026.

Why clip-on earphones are the fastest-growing trend of 2026. 2026-07-07 14:42 Something unexpected is happening in the wireless earphone market. For years, the industry assumed that the ultimate goal was an earphone that blocks out the world - first with passive isolation, then with active noise cancellation. But in 2026, the fastest-growing category is the exact opposite: open-ear clip-on earphones that let you hear your music and your surroundings at the same time. According to Counterpoint Research, open-ear wireless earphone shipments grew 47% year-on-year in 2025, reaching 86 million units globally. This growth rate is more than 3x the growth rate of the overall TWS market. By 2027, open-ear is projected to represent over 25% of all wireless earphone shipments, up from just 8% in 2023. The demographic driving this growth is notable: while in-ear TWS originally found its audience among young, tech-forward consumers, open-ear adoption is broad-based - fitness enthusiasts, office workers, parents who need to stay aware of their children, and older consumers who find in-ear tips uncomfortable. This broader demographic has attracted major brands: Bose, Sony, and Shokz (formerly AfterShokz) have all launched or announced open-ear products in 2025-2026. | Feature | Open-Ear Clip-On | In-Ear TWS | Bone Conduction | | Comfort (6+ hours) | Excellent - no ear canal contact, 4-6g per side | Moderate - silicone tip fatigue after 2-3 hours | Good - rests on temple, no canal contact | | Sound Quality | Good - spatial audio, limited bass | Excellent - sealed chamber, full frequency range | Moderate - weak bass, mid-focused | | Ambient Awareness | Full - ears completely open | Limited - requires transparency mode (ANC on) | Full - ears completely open | | Battery Life | 6-8 hours (per charge) | 4-7 hours (ANC on), 6-9 hours (ANC off) | 6-10 hours | | Water Resistance | IPX4-IPX5 (typical) | IPX4-IPX7 (varies) | IPX5-IPX7 (typical) | | Call Quality (ENC) | Very Good - directional mics | Good (varies by model) | Moderate - less mic placement flexibility | | Best Use Case | Office, walking, gym, parenting | Commute, flights, focused work | Swimming, cycling, outdoor sports | | 2026 Price Range (Retail) | USD 25-80 | USD 15-200 | USD 50-180 | All-Day Wearability: The number one reason consumers cite for switching from in-ear to open-ear is comfort. In-ear earphones rely on silicone tips that expand inside the ear canal to create a seal. For a 30-minute commute, this is fine. For an 8-hour work day, it becomes genuinely uncomfortable. Open-ear clip-ons rest gently on the outer ear without entering the canal at all. BWOO's BO-BW99 weighs just 4.8g per side - light enough to forget you are wearing them. Safety and Situational Awareness: For anyone who exercises outdoors, walks in traffic, or works in an environment where hearing ambient sound is important, open-ear is the safer choice. In-ear ANC in transparency mode attempts to recreate this effect electronically, but even the best transparency modes sound slightly artificial and introduce a 5-15ms latency that can be disorienting in fast-moving traffic situations. No Occlusion Effect: In-ear earphones create an 'occlusion effect' - the amplification of body-generated sounds (footsteps, breathing, chewing) that are trapped inside the sealed ear canal. For runners and gym users, this constant thudding with each step is one of the most underreported annoyances of in-ear designs. Open-ear eliminates it entirely. Hygiene in Hot Climates: In tropical and desert climates - Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Australia, the southern United States - in-ear earphones accumulate sweat, earwax, and bacteria inside the ear canal, often causing ear infections with prolonged use. Open-ear designs avoid ear canal contact entirely, making them inherently more hygienic for hot-weather users. Office and remote work. Open-ear earphones let you listen to music, take calls, and hear a colleague tap on your shoulder - all without removing or pausing anything. For remote workers in shared spaces, this awareness is essential. The BO-BW99's ENC (Environmental Noise Cancellation) ensures your call quality is clear even in a moderately noisy office environment. Fitness and outdoor exercise. Runners, cyclists, and gym users are the original adopters of open-ear technology. Hearing approaching vehicles, fellow runners, or gym equipment alerts is a genuine safety consideration. Open-ear clip-ons provide this awareness without the head-vibration fatigue associated with bone conduction alternatives. Parenting and caregiving. Parents of young children who want to listen to podcasts or take calls while remaining attentive to their child's sounds have found open-ear to be the ideal compromise between staying connected and staying available. BWOO's BO-BW99 embodies the open-ear value proposition with wireless 6.0 for stable, low-latency connection, ENC for clear calls, IPX5 water resistance for sweat and rain, and a featherweight 4.8g-per-side design. The clip-on mechanism uses a memory-alloy earhook that conforms to individual ear shapes without pinching. Battery life is 6.5 hours per charge, with an additional 25 hours in the pocket-sized charging case. For B2B buyers: the BO-BW99 is one of the fastest-growing SKUs in BWOO's earphone portfolio, reflecting the broader market shift toward open-ear. As a pure B2B brand, BWOO offers this product exclusively to distributors and retailers - no direct-to-consumer competition. For B2B distributors and retailers, the smartest 2026 strategy is a portfolio approach that covers both in-ear ANC and open-ear clip-on models. Consumers are not switching en masse away from in-ear - they are adding open-ear as a second pair for specific use cases. The distributor who stocks both categories, and educates retail staff on their complementary use cases, maximizes basket size and customer satisfaction. BWOO's BO-BW61 (ANC in-ear, replaceable battery) paired with the BO-BW99 (open-ear clip-on) covers both ends of the 2026 earphone demand curve from a single supplier. Walk into any major gym chain in 2026 - Equinox, Barry's, PureGym - and you will notice a shift in what people are wearing in their ears. Three years ago, it was AirPods Pro (ANC in-ear). Today, approximately 30-35% of gym-goers wear some form of open-ear audio, whether Shokz bone conduction or clip-on designs. The reasons are practical: * In-ear earphones get dislodged during high-intensity movements like burpees, box jumps, and deadlifts - clip-ons stay put because they hook onto the ear; * Open-ear awareness lets you hear if someone is trying to get your attention or if equipment is malfunctioning; * Sweat management is simpler - no silicone tips to clean or replace. BWOO's BO-BW99 with IPX5 rating is built for this exact use case: sweat-proof, secure clip-on fit, and enough battery to cover even the longest gym session plus the commute home. Open-ear clip-on earphones use a fundamentally different acoustic principle than in-ear monitors. Instead of creating a sealed chamber in your ear canal, open-ear designs use precisely angled micro-speakers that direct sound toward the ear canal opening without blocking it. The driver sits just outside the ear, angled to project sound waves that travel a short distance through open air into the canal. Modern clip-on designs like BWOO's BO-BW99 incorporate spatial audio tuning that compensates for the lack of acoustic seal by boosting mid-range frequencies and using DSP (Digital Signal Processing) to minimize the perceived bass loss that open-air designs traditionally suffer. The result is sound quality that is closer to a desktop speaker experience than to in-ear monitors - wider soundstage, more natural instrument separation, but with less isolation and less earth-shaking sub-bass than a sealed IEM. For genres like classical, acoustic, podcasts, and audiobooks, many listeners actually prefer the open-air sound signature. Quick Navigation The numbers: how fast is open-ear growing? Open-Ear Clip-On vs. In-Ear vs. Bone Conduction: full comparison. Why consumers are choosing open-ear in 2026. The ideal use cases for open-ear. Introducing BWOO BO-BW99: the Open-Ear Clip-On built for All-Day use. The verdict: which one should you stock? Open-Ear and the fitness boom: why gyms are going open. New York City receives about half of revenue it receives from real estate taxes New York City collected a record $39.6 billion in real estate taxes in fiscal 2025, representing nearly half of all locally generated tax revenue, with about 90% coming from the Real Property Tax, Propmodo reports. A new annual report from the Real Estate Board of New York says commercial properties, including multifamily buildings, offices, retail, hotels and industrial sites, generated roughly 77% of property tax payments. The group argued the figures underscore how heavily the city's finances rely on real estate as officials debate a proposed $127 billion fiscal 2027 budget. The report also landed amid renewed political scrutiny of high-profile luxury purchases and major development plans, which the organization said should be viewed alongside the sector's overall tax contribution. Commercial space industry accelerates in Texas, Federal Reserve analysis shows Texas' commercial space industry is accelerating, building on its long aerospace history while shifting toward a private-sector-led model, Forth Worth Inc. reports. An analysis from the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas says the state has attracted major firms, including SpaceX, Blue Origin, Firefly Aerospace, Axiom Space and Intuitive Machines, supported by NASA's Johnson Space Center, engineering talent, geography and a relatively light regulatory environment. Texas accounts for a modest share of U.S. launches, and the pure space workforce remains small. Recent developments, such as SpaceX's expanded Texas presence, are boosting the state's visibility in global launch activity. Public funding has also returned, with the Texas Space Commission revived and backed by significant investment. More Southern California companies buying buildings rather than leasing A growing number of mid-sized and large companies in Southern California are buying the office and industrial buildings they occupy, the Los Angeles Times reports. Brokers say the shift shows the market is finding its footing as prices reset and investor demand softens. One recent example is State Compensation Insurance Fund's purchase of a Class A office property in Pasadena, which it plans to partly occupy while leasing the remaining space and investing in upgrades such as amenities and meeting areas. Brokers say similar owner-user moves in downtown Los Angeles suggest buyers see long-term value returning, especially when tenants choose ownership over renewal. In the industrial sector, post-pandemic rent increases are pushing some tenants to purchase facilities at lease expiration, even as certain fast-growing industries continue to expand through leasing across the region. San Francisco's Union Square begins to show signs of recovery, officials say San Francisco officials and commercial real estate leaders say Union Square is showing renewed momentum as retail vacancies fall and more tenants tour available storefronts, KGO-TV reports. Leasing prices have dropped in some cases, and several major brands are relocating within the district as interest picks up. Mayor Daniel Lurie announced a Downtown Business Fund to help smaller businesses open downtown, while the city also advances a Powell Street corridor project expected to cost tens of millions. Still, leaders warned the recovery is uneven, with office vacancies remaining far higher than before the pandemic and the broader rebound described as fragile. Arizona. Tech manufacturing keeps Valley industrial market in high gear Greater Phoenix's "Silicon Desert" manufacturing sector is reshaping the industrial real estate market, with demand for modern, power-hungry facilities keeping leasing momentum alive even as a wave of new supply works through the system, AZ Big Media reports. Brokers say 2025 brought signs of stabilization, as vacancy edged down from early-year highs while absorption remained historically strong, and early 2026 activity continued that trend with more space being taken off the market. The region's big-box inventory has tightened dramatically, pushing interest toward a mix of large-footprint logistics buildings and a rebounding mid-bay segment after tariff and financing worries sidelined some tenants last year. Tenants want buildings with more electrical capacity and better infrastructure. Rosendin Electric buys building in Chandler to house regional headquarters Rosendin Electric, a large employee-owned electrical contractor, has purchased Allred Park Place Building 4 in Chandler to establish a Mountain West regional headquarters, AZ Big Media reports. A 100,622-square-foot, two-story facility near Loop 101 and Loop 202, the regional headquarters is expected to bring together regional leadership, operations and corporate teams. Company and property representatives say the move is designed to support continued growth in the Phoenix metro area and strengthen collaboration by consolidating teams in one location. Plans for the campus include a training center and a dedicated space for innovation efforts.
