Careem app provides food and grocery delivery, digital payments, and courier services (Careem website) "Careem Technologies", the operator of Careem's super app and based in Dubai, continued to strengthen its presence in the digital services sector, with its revenue rising by 20% year-on-year during the first half of 2026, reaching 884 million dirhams ($241 million). The revenue growth reflects the expansion of the service base provided by the Careem app, which has evolved over the past years from a platform specialized in mobility services to a super app offering a wide range of daily services to users. The "super app" model expands The Careem app brings together under one platform a set of services, including food and grocery delivery, digital payments, and courier services, along with a range of other consumer-oriented services. This model gives the company a growing presence in digital economy sectors, leveraging Careem's user base to expand the range of services offered through the app. Investments and partnerships boost growth Careem's business growth comes in the context of investment expansion and strategic partnerships that have strengthened the company's position in the technology and digital services market in the region. In 2023, Emirates Telecommunications Group "e&" acquired a 50.03% stake in Careem Technologies for $400 million, in a deal that reflected the attractiveness of the technology and digital services sector in which the company operates. In June 2025, Uber raised its stake in Careem Technologies to 62.47%, after agreeing to buy a 12.5% stake from e& for $100 million, while the Emirati group retained a 37.53% stake. From Dubai to a regional digital platform Careem was founded in Dubai in 2012 as a platform for hailing taxis, before Uber acquired it in 2020 in a deal worth $3.1 billion. Since its founding, the company has succeeded in expanding its business model, transforming from a company specialized in mobility services to a multi-service digital platform targeting users' daily needs. The original founders Mudassir Sheikha and Magnus Olsson still lead the company, which continues to develop the "super app" model and strengthen its presence in the digital services economy in the region. The revenue growth during the first half of 2026 highlights Careem's ability to expand its business and capitalize on the growing demand for digital services, while its service diversification strengthens its position as one of the most prominent technology platforms originating from Dubai.
