Point Broadband and Clearwave Fiber have signed a definitive agreement to combine, creating one of the largest independent fibre operators in the US. The merged entity will serve over 500,000 customers across 12 states, with plans to expand to more than one million premises. Point Broadband, founded in 2017 and backed by GTCR and Berkshire Partners, operates a fibre network across 10 states, predominantly in the Southeast and Midwest. Clearwave Fiber, formed in 2022 through a joint venture among Cable One, GTCR, The Pritzker Organisation and Stephens Capital Partners, provides fibre internet services to residential and commercial customers. David Armistead, current Clearwave Fiber CEO, will lead the combined company, whilst John Cinelli, Metronet co-founder and Point Broadband board chairman, will serve as chairman.
Clearwave previously announced its entry into Kansas through its acquisition of fiber network provider RG Fiber, but the Lansing build is the company's first network presence in the state.
