UDOT completes I-15 interchange reconstruction in Weber County after 3 years.

UDOT completes I-15 interchange reconstruction in Weber County after 3 years. Posted: Aug 17, 2026 / 07:30 PM MDT Updated: Aug 17, 2026 / 07:30 PM MDT ROY, Utah (ABC4) - After three years, UDOT has completed its reconstruction of the I-15 interchange at 5600 South/State Route 97 in Weber County. UDOT completely reconstructed the interchange, replacing it with a new single-point urban interchange, which brings traffic from the I-15 ramps and 5600 South together at a single traffic light. Construction on the interchange began in the summer of 2023. UDOT said that it will help traffic move more efficiently and improve access between Roy, Riverdale, and Hill Air Force Base. More than 100,000 vehicles travel on I-15 and 5600 South each day, so this project was intended to address current traffic needs while also preparing for continued growth in northern Utah. Brady Roberts, UDOT Region 1 Project Manager, said the new interchange will increase efficiency and will be safer. "It's going to improve businesses as well, as far as getting people to and from business in the local area, but really it just comes down to the traveling public and keeping things safe," he said. In addition to the new interchange, the project also widened 5600 South between I-15 and 3500 West. It also added more options for walking and biking along the road, introducing new sidewalks, bike lanes, and a multi-use trail. There's also a new pedestrian bridge carrying the D&RGW Rail Trail over 5600 South near Roy Elementary and Roy Junior High Schools. The bridge gives pedestrians, cyclists, and students a separated crossing over the busy road. UDOT will be celebrating the project's completion at Roy Elementary's Back-to-School Night on Thursday, Aug. 20. Community members are invited, and there will be free ice cream. The project was constructed by a joint venture between W.W. Clyde and Granite Construction.
