Continue.dev integrates Large Language Models into popular IDEs (like VS Code and JetBrains) to assist software developers directly in their coding environment. Its tools include code generation, refactoring, and on-demand explanations that users can access by highlighting sections of code to get instant feedback and answers. The platform supports multiple programming languages, not just Python, and blends open-source access with premium subscriptions for advanced features and dedicated support. This differentiates Continue.dev from competitors by combining community-driven, freely accessible core features with paid enhancements, all centered on AI-assisted coding within the IDE. The company’s goal is to make coding faster and more intuitive, letting developers focus on creativity and problem-solving while the AI helps with routine or complex tasks embedded in their workflow.

Mistral has updated its open-source coding model Codestral — which is proving popular among coders — extending the competition for coding-focused models targeted to developers. In a blog post, the company said it has upgraded the model with more efficient architecture to create Codestral 25.01, a model Mistral promises will be the “clear leader for coding in its weight class” and twice as fast as the previous version. Like the original Codestral, Codestral 25.01 is optimized for low-latency, high-frequency actions and supports code correction, test generation and fill-in-the-middle tasks. The company said it could be helpful for enterprises with more data and model residency use cases. Benchmark tests showed Codestral 25.01 performed better in tests coding in Python and scored 86.6% in the HumanEval test. It beat the previous version of Codestral, Codellama 70B Instruct and DeepSeek Coder 33B instruct. This version of Codestral will be available to developers who are part of Mistral’s IDE plugin partners. Users can deploy Codestral 25.01 locally through the code assistant Continue

Time's almost up! There's only one week left to request an invite to The AI Impact Tour on June 5th. Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity to explore various methods for auditing AI models. Find out how you can attend here. Today, Paris-based Mistral, the AI startup that raised Europe’s largest-ever seed round a year ago and has since become a rising star in the global AI domain, marked its entry into the programming and development space with the launch of Codestral, its first-ever code-centric large language model (LLM). Available today under a non-commercial license, Codestral is a 22B parameter, open-weight generative AI model that specializes in coding tasks, right from generation to completion. According to Mistral, the model specializes in more than 80 programming languages, making it an ideal tool for software developers looking to design advanced AI applications. The company claims Codestral already outperforms previous models designed for coding tasks, including CodeLlama 70B and Deepseek Coder 33B, and is being utilized by several industry partners, including JetBrains, SourceGraph and LlamaIndex
