Datrium provides a disaster recovery platform that helps enterprises quickly restore data and operations after cyber-attacks or natural disasters. The system works by integrating storage, backup, and encryption into a single cloud-based service on AWS, allowing businesses to restart their operations almost immediately through a process called instant recovery. Unlike competitors that require managing multiple separate tools, Datrium combines all recovery functions into one interface to simplify data management and reduce costs. The company's goal is to provide a scalable, on-demand service that ensures business continuity and data integrity for large organizations.

Can VMWare make the case that it is a better alternative to AWS, Azure and GCP? Let's find out what's on offer.
VMware has announced its intent to acquire Datrium, adding further options to its disaster recovery as a service (DRaaS) offerings.
Datrium competes directly with Dell EMC, and the agreement comes amid talk that Dell Technologies is considering spinning off its VMware subsidiary VMware disclosed on Wednesday a deal to buy Datrium in a bid to bolster its cloud-based disaster recovery capabilities—and its larger hybrid cloud ambitions—with the startup’s innovative hyper-converged technology.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Datrium has raised about $120 million in funding since its launch in 2012, including a $60 million Series D round led by Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. two years ago.
