What believers are saying

  • Toy Story: Retro Roundup! launches October 15, 2026 across Switch 2, PS5, Xbox, and PC.
  • Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection and Barbie Rewind extend 2026 release cadence and visibility.
  • Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition released February 13, 2026 with documentary extras and modernized controls.

What critics are saying

  • Digital Eclipse depends on licensed hits; Disney, Ubisoft, and Warner can renegotiate or revoke terms.
  • Atari paid only $20 million for the studio, signaling thin margins and limited bargaining power.
  • If Disney or Ubisoft pulls a major license before 2027, Atari's retro thesis weakens.

What makes Digital Eclipse Entertainment Partners unique

  • Atari owns Digital Eclipse since November 2023, funding preservation-focused catalog deals and tools.
  • Its Gold Master format pairs playable restorations with documentaries, as Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition showed.
  • Few studios secure Disney, Ubisoft, Warner, Konami, and Atari licenses for retro re-releases.

Toy Story: Retro Roundup review for Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch.

Toy Story: Retro Roundup review for Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch. System: Switch 2 (reviewed) / Switch Release date: October 15, 2026 Developer: Digital Eclipse Publisher: Atari It's time for Toy Story: Retro Roundup - come on and gather 'round! The collection, where nobody wears a frown. Sing along, you know the words! Digital Eclipse and Atari have teamed up to release this brand new package of classic Toy Story video games, starring the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, Jessie, the yodeling cowgirl, and the rest of everyone's favorite toys. Featuring here are a range of titles across several different consoles, from the SNES and Genesis all the way to the PS1, with a whole treasure trove of extras and a heap of quality-of-life changes to keep things fun for everyone. Let's break down the games Nintendo News has here. Nintendo News has eleven versions of six classic games in this retro collection; Toy Story (Genesis/SNES/Game Boy), Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue (PS1), Toy Story 2 (Game Boy Color), Buzz Lightyear of Star Command (PS1/Game Boy Color), Toy Story Racer (PS1/Game Boy Color) and A Bug's Life (PS1/Game Boy Color). This is a strong selection of titles, all of which are really cool to have on modern consoles for preservation's sake. On top of that, a lot of them are still really fun to play. I had a particularly fun time with Toy Story Racer, the PS1 version of Toy Story 2 and A Bug's Life, but none of the games presented here are without their charm. A lot of the titles on show in this roundup are platformers based on different parts of Pixar's flagship franchise, including the mainline films as well as the relatively obscure Buzz Lightyear cartoon. While a lot of them were fun for me to mess around with, I would openly admit that as someone who grew up in this particular era of licensed games, I am aware of the trappings these titles came with. Poor camera control, limited voice work, and awkward hit detection are issues that sometimes plague several of these games, but thankfully for Nintendo News, Digital Eclipse has worked their magic to make them more playable for a modern audience, as well as for some of Nintendo News older heads who would perhaps want a smoother experience, even if Nintendo News is aware of the pitfalls that often drag these kinds of games down. A lot of the fresh new quality-of-life additions, as well as control schemes and options, can only be accessed through the brand new menu that is brought up by pressing the right control stick inwards. This is important, and something that isn't immediately obvious playing the game. Some of the features here include your staple save, load, reset, and resume options, customizable controls, instruction manuals (which is super cool), screen display options (widescreen, fullscreen, etc.), background borders and some really fun filter options. At Gamescom this year, Digital Eclipse's Stephen Frost showed me some of the specific detail in the 'CRT Curved' filter option, and knowing the amount of effort and detail that went into effectively giving players the same feeling of playing on a retro TV to match the Toy Story vibe is super commendable, and it shows in the product. Each game has three save files, which was more than enough. They very much have that pick-up-and-play feel, and these traits are especially handy for a system like Nintendo Switch 2. I found myself messing around with the collection on bus rides to work and lunch breaks, playing in 20-40 minute bursts. The titles also all feature detailed how-to-play guides as well as a practice mode where Rex plays the game from any point you like and you can take control whenever you wish. Rex also has some cheat codes he can give out that include unlimited lives, invincibility, level skips, and other helpful cheats, depending on the game. General options on the main UI include a plethora of different language options, selectable credits, and adjustable menu music and sound. Holding down L2 and R2 together activates the rewind feature, which is especially useful with some of the older games that are notoriously quite tricky. Talking about performance on Nintendo Switch 2, I primarily played the game handheld, but I also spent two or three hours docked to see if I felt any discernible difference. I'm happy to report that everything flows just as well on the go as it does on the TV. I experienced no gameplay lag, frame drops, glitches, or other technical issues. Each game runs tremendously, regardless of how you want to play, and with all these spanky new additions and improvements that Digital Eclipse has littered through the collection, there is no better way of playing any of these titles. I haven't even spoken about my favorite part of this collection, something that has become a staple in a lot of other Digital Eclipse collections: the museum mode and sound test. In the case of this title specifically, Nintendo News is talking about the Music Player and Toy History. As was the case with Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection and indeed a lot of Digital Eclipse's work, Toy Story: Retro Roundup includes a massively detailed and thoroughly informative museum of the history behind Toy Story as a franchise. Information is available for the games in this collection, the films, and even the animated Buzz Lightyear series. Galleries of images from each game's development, sketches, 3D box art you can rotate and view, concept artwork, magazine clip-outs, and the highlight of its tour, a selection of video featurettes that include historical footage of how Toy Story went from film to video games, an interview with Tom Hanks' brother Jim, who voices Woody in Tom's place in the video games. The original developers of this collection's titles, Traveller's Tales (of LEGO and Sonic R fame), also feature in a new interview, and there are also some documentaries on developing for handheld devices back in the day, as well as the advent of CD-ROM, and the advancements in technology. It is all very cool and a great addition to the collection if you're like me and find the history of game development super interesting. All of these options are displayed through a UI designed around Andy's room from the films, and features some of his toys hanging around, and it is very neat. The sound test here, Music Player, features all the music from all the games in the collection, which can be made into a playlist through choosing which tracks to favorite with a deputy sheriff gold star. Yee-haw! I really searched my brain to find fault with this collection, and after sitting down and mulling it over, I came to the conclusion that it accomplishes what it sets out to do flawlessly. This is one of the smoothest retro collections I've played, and each new addition here enhances a selection of already fun games with faults that are largely resolved thanks to Rex's cheats and the rewind feature, especially. The only thing that wasn't resolved was some of the camera issues with some of these titles, but that would have been understandably difficult. It is a shame that a few of the outstanding ports didn't make it in, like the Dreamcast and N64 versions of Toy Story 2, but that isn't a criticism of this collection specifically. I really do think Digital Eclipse has gone to infinity and beyond, and it is totally worth your time - especially if you are buying the game in a bundle with Toy Story 3: Complete Edition. The word I'm searching for I can't say because there are preschool toys present, but rest assured this roundup kicks butt! Toy Story returns with Retro Roundup and Toy Story 3 Complete Edition.

Toy Story returns with Retro Roundup and Toy Story 3 Complete Edition. June 2, 2026 Three decades after Pixar's iconic toys first bounced onto cinema screens, Woody, Buzz and friends are preparing for a gaming comeback. Digital Eclipse and Atari have announced not one but two new Toy Story releases, bringing a collection of retro classics together alongside a remastered version of one of the most beloved movie tie-in games ever made. Launching on October 15th, 2026, both Toy Story: Retro Roundup! and Toy Story 3 Complete Edition will arrive on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PC, giving fans old and new plenty of reasons to revisit Andy's toy box. At A glance. * Toy Story: Retro Roundup! and Toy Story 3 Complete Edition launch October 15th, 2026 * Coming digitally to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC * Physical bundle includes both games * Toy Story 3 Complete Edition features upgraded visuals and restored content * Retro Roundup includes six classic Disney and Pixar games * New behind-the-scenes documentaries, interviews and archival content included * Physical pre-orders are available now "With Toy Story: Retro Roundup! and Toy Story 3 Complete Edition, classic Toy Story games have been reborn for fans as only Digital Eclipse is capable, with games carefully updated for modern platforms and supported by bonus content that takes you behind the scenes" said Ethan Stearns, VP of Games at Atari. A modern return for Toy Story 3. For many players, the headline attraction will be Toy Story 3 Complete Edition, which brings the acclaimed 2010 adventure back to modern platforms for the first time. Widely regarded as one of the strongest movie tie-in games ever released, Toy Story 3 stood out thanks to its excellent Story Mode and the hugely popular Toy Box Mode, an open-ended sandbox that encouraged creativity, exploration and experimentation. This new edition includes visual enhancements, improved performance and previously platform-exclusive content that wasn't available in every version of the original release. Players can once again swap between Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Jessie throughout the campaign, while local co-op also returns. Those who remember the original fondly may recall just how impressive Toy Box Mode felt at the time. In fact, Thexboxhub looked back at the game in a retrospective piece, highlighting how it managed to become much more than a standard movie adaptation thanks to its freedom, charm and ambitious design. Retro Roundup brings the classics back. Alongside the remaster comes Toy Story: Retro Roundup!, a collection built around some of the most memorable Pixar and Toy Story games from the late 1990s and early 2000s. The package includes the original Toy Story game from 1995, Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue!, Toy Story Racer, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command and several other classic releases, many of which have been difficult to access on modern hardware for years. A Bug's Life is also included as a bonus addition. Digital Eclipse will also be applying its now familiar preservation treatment, adding quality-of-life features such as rewind functionality, save states, practice modes, cheat options and enhanced visual presentation. Players can also choose to experience certain titles with their original visual style intact for a more authentic retro feel. As expected from a Digital Eclipse project, the package goes beyond simply making old games playable again. Retro Roundup includes a wealth of archival material, featuring new interviews, development history, rare imagery and video documentaries exploring both the films and the games that helped bring Pixar's characters into the interactive world. A dedicated music player is also included, featuring soundtracks from across the collection. It's the kind of museum-style presentation that has become Digital Eclipse's trademark, turning game preservation into something that feels as valuable as the games themselves. "We're excited for players to jump back into Toy Story 3 and experience the creativity, humor and heart that makes Toy Story such a landmark franchise," said Mike Mika at Digital Eclipse. "Toy Story 3 is celebrated as one of the great movie-to-game adaptations ever made, and it has been an absolute pleasure to rediscover." October can't come soon enough. With Toy Story celebrating its 30th anniversary, these releases feel like a fitting way to mark the occasion. Whether you're revisiting Toy Story 3's excellent sandbox mode or diving back into some of the franchise's earliest gaming adventures, October 15th is shaping up to be a nostalgic date for Disney and Pixar fans. Both Toy Story: Retro Roundup! and Toy Story 3 Complete Edition launch on October 15th, 2026 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
