Warframe reveals major new chapter, playing Card Mini-Game, Fortnite collab and much more. And Brysko, a Sentient Warframe The free-to-play co-op third-person looter shooter Warframe, which made its debut on the Switch 2 in March, held its 11th TennoCon Celebration this week, sharing multiple announcements. Developer Digital Extremes unveiled the next major narrative chapter 'Warframe: Tau', a new Warframe, Brysko, Warframe's first card mini-game, new enemy faction & environment, and new music. The title also now has a Fortnite collab, with the Void joining Epic's popular battle royale universe, allowing players to earn an Excalibur skin. TennoCon 2026. Warframe: Tau. Here are the details about the latest chapter from the official PR: * Main Quest, Tau: Take a trip to the Sentient ring city of Fornax, where Albrecht Entrati awaits the return of the Tenno. Here, the constant black rain and criminal faction in-fighting fuel the criminal underworld. Challenge The Hunra, voiced by Jonathan Bullock (Dynasty Warriors: Origins), a ruthless crime boss who rules the city through the production of an addicting substance, Bloom, and his deadly network of smugglers and enforcers, to uncover the truth of what has become of Tau. * New Warframe, Brysko (feat. Matthew Mercer): Brought back to life by Albrecht Entrati, Brysko is a Sentient Warframe. Silent to the world, but alive in inner monologue, his creation was for but one mission: infiltrate The Hunra's inner circle. Let fists fly with his signature new brass knuckles melee weapon, Rain & Shine, his explosive playing cards, and Exalted revolver magnum, the Corecracker. * First Card Mini-Game, Portau: Play a risky hand and decide what's worth betting with Portau, Warframe's first playing card mini-game. Master the Sentient card game, iterating on the rules of poker with its own suite of Blooms, Cores, Moons, and Suns that is extremely popular in The Hunra's gambling dens. * New Enemy Faction / New Environment: Descend into the living Sentient metropolis of Fornax, haunted by its past and black rain, as a new mission environment comprising high-end casinos, grimy shipping docks, and dilapidated slums. Defend against the deadly Sentient faction, the Fornax Drowners, who have evolved differently than the Sentients encountered within the Origin System back home. * New Original Music: Enter another dimension and somber trance with a new original noir trip-hop track, "View From the Top" sung by Canadian vocalist Jill Harris. This ethereal song of longing was first heard in the Warframe: Tau gameplay demo and will be available on most major music streaming platforms soon. Other announcements. Warframe's next major update blends Blade Runner, The Sopranos, and film noir in a whole new solar system, coming later this year.

Warframe's next major update blends Blade Runner, The Sopranos, and film noir in a whole new solar system, coming later this year. Jul 12, 2026 - 04:16 Digital Extremes has wrapped up this year's Tennocon Live event with a massive reveal trailer for Warframe's next major update: Warframe: Tau. This update brings players to a Blade Runner and Sopranos-inspired locale, and tackles themes of addiction and its dangers head-on. The roughly 30-minute trailer features a fly-by of all the planets in the games' Origin system, where players have been present for the past 12 years, before showing off the Tau system. It then transitions to the ringed city of Fornax - which encircles one of Tau's planets and acts as the setting for the bulk of the demo. Warframe: Tau is set to release some time later this year. The demo follows Brysko - a new detective Warframe voiced by Matthew Mercer (Cole Cassidy from Overwatch, Critical Role) who's packing the Core Cracker revolver, throwable trading cards, and a dog sidekick. The canine companion was confirmed in a dev talk prior to the trailer, but sadly was not shown off during the event. Brysko is seen navigating streets and tunnels flooded with oily black rain, which appears to revive the dead and mentaly scar those exposed to it for too long. Sentients living there are seen abusing The Bloom, an organic drug-like substance that plays a major part in the narrative on Fornax. Warframe creative director Rebecca Ford spoke to Eurogamer, and confirmed Fornax was inspired by "Boardwalk Empire, Blade Runner, and even a little Sopranos." She explained that players have wanted an open world zone like 2017's Plains of Eidolon, and described Fornax as "something in-between" that and more modern Warframe updates, featuring multiple player hubs with varying aesthetics. The update will launch with two regions, whole new mission types, and a teases spin on the optional Steel Path difficulty toggle in Tau (think of this as a spin on new game plus, if you're not familiar). Fornax seems to be a bold departure from what Digital Extremes has added to Warframe over the years, with flying Sentient cars, towering skyscrapers and a luxurious casino. The Tau update includes a new card mini-game players can mess around with, a further link to the vice-heavy narrative being told. A theme of addiction and exploitation, be it through Bloom use or gambling far above the slums, has ties to the real-world experiences of the developers at Digital Extremes according to Ford. "The core question [is] 'what are you willing to bet?' because as many of us know, addiction can take many different forms. Many members of the team have seen firsthand what overcoming that struggle looks like; it's very close to our hearts," Ford said. "On the front lines here in London, Ontario, Ranzware inc. see it in its streets and in its parks. "This might be uncomfortable for some, but for others, and for us as developers, it's a way of acknowledging instead of ignoring, and doing it in a way that might help you see the other side of the coin. Addiction isn't always a choice, but is often a result of circumstance. That's a little something we're trying to explore in the narrative of this chapter." The demo shows Sentients suffering and crumbling, be it due to the black rain, the Bloom, or life in the slums. In stark contrast, Sentients seen in the casino are shining and gilded, with towering bouncers and even a jazz club-styled singer making an appearance. Taking a second look at the Sentients was a major challenge - and opportunity - for the development team. "What's so fun about going to Tau, especially an entire Sentient city, is that we've only ever seen Sentients arrive in the Origin System on bigger Sentients who function as ships," Ford said. "So we are taking that idea even further: are some Sentients taxis? Jukeboxes? Cranes? Slot machines? [...] Is this the hand they were dealt, the circumstance they were placed in, or was it chosen for them?" The quest introduced in Warframe: Tau was the final big reveal at this year's Tennocon, though Digital Extremes also revealed some other juicy newsy bits for the sci-fi MMO. The 2026 fall update is called 'Iceblade of Narin', and will add a new female ice warframe to the game. Mesa Prime's heirloom skin is available now, Citrine will be the next Prime warframe added to the game, and both Banshee and Qorvex will be getting deluxe skins. Banshee is getting a rework too, at long last. With the Tau system acting as a new canvas for Digital Extremes to experiment with new aesthetics and themes, Warframe: Tau is a big milestone update for the MMO. After multiple quests pointing to Tau as the next major destination, it looks to be an exciting time to be a Warframe player.

Soulframe devs confirm 'the beaver will be okay' after high-stakes TennoCon gameplay.

Soulframe devs confirm 'the beaver will be okay' after high-stakes TennoCon gameplay. There's no need to worry, everyone. That beaver that got struck by an arrow during Soulframe's TennoCon 2026 demo will be okay. At TennoCon Live this year, Digital Extremes showed off the upcoming Warsongs Fable for Soulframe. This playable story segment gave Polygon Company a better look at Ben Starr's new character, Bayor, and the corrupted Vadagar Pact. The part that stuck with Polygon Company at Polygon the most, though, was the brief bit when you get to play as a beaver. Early in Warsongs, some soldiers are supposed to guard a basket containing a baby. To save the child, a beaver drags it away and swims downriver with it. For a minute or so, during which the Warsongs title drops, players briefly get to control the swimming beaver. It's not only a really novel moment with a cute animal, but it also turns what could've just been a quick shot in a cutscene into a more memorable moment. Polygon asked how this quirky beaver gameplay came to be, and they explained that its inclusion was an obvious extension of the game's animal-friendly themes and just the start of Soulframe having more playable animals. "The game has such a large selection of animals and art that we can use and add to the gameplay. I think the beaver's a natural evolution of those sort of things and the themes in the game," lead designer Scott McGregor tells Polygon. "Being able to play from the different characters' perspectives is going to be super fun. The beaver's definitely not going to be the end of it as well. I think we'll have much more animal perspective as the game develops further along." There is a prototype with a rat running around Soulframe's world, according to the developers, although that doesn't appear to be directly related to any upcoming in-game content. Instead, Polygon Company can all just get hyped up to go beaver mode when Warsongs launches this fall or ride a mount once those come to the game around the same time. Senior community manager Sarah Asselin also told Polygon in an interview that "being able to play as the beaver and add that into the fable rather than just cutscene after cutscene was an important decision and hopefully a more immersive one, especially because that's when the actual fable name is unveiled on screen for the first time." If going for more immersive narrative-driven gameplay moments results in more beaver gameplay, then by all means keep doing that, Digital Extremes. More importantly, Asselin tells Polygon Company that the beaver, which is shot with an arrow as it flees with the baby, is safe and presumably the same beaver later shown with a blue handprint on its side in Warsongs. "I know I was very upset when I first saw it because I was very worried for Mr. Beaver, but the beaver will be okay." Soulframe is currently holding Preludes pre-alpha playtests on PC, and Digital Extremes is giving access to those who sign up during TennoCon. Additional reporting by Simone de Rochefort

TennoCon 2026: Soulframe goes to the edge with its most ambitious updates yet.

TennoCon 2026: Soulframe goes to the edge with its most ambitious updates yet. Day two of TennoCon 2026 kicked off with a bang as Digital Extremes announced a suite of world-shaking updates coming to Soulframe over the coming months. Contrasting the game's normal tone of compassion and rehabilitating a corrupted world, Soulframe is adding a drastic new Pact that channels the power of that corruption instead. The Vadagar pact will launch alongside the Warsongs Fable in fall 2026 with not only an intriguing new skillset, but a distinct set of Virtues that defy the normal paradigm of the world. Digital Extremes CEO Steve Sinclair described Soulframe's new Pact as "the edgelord aspect" or "anti-envoy," and alluded to his love for the BioWare classic Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. This dark power is connected to a new Soulframe character, Tempest Bayor, as voiced by Ben Starr (who previously appeared in Warframe as Arthur Nightingale). During a gameplay demo shown live at TennoCon's main event, TennoLive, Bayor is shown to have a close relation to the player character and the game's mysterious backstory. "Digital Extremes CEO Steve Sinclair described Soulframe's new Pact as 'the edgelord aspect' or 'anti-envoy.'" Envoys will also be able to partake in fishing at certain locations. Soulframe's take on the popular mini-game is catch-and-release, true to the game's usual animal-friendly tone, and was jokingly referred to as "vegan fishing." Soulframe Preludes players will soon be able to unlock mounts, starting with a wolf pup currently obtainable from the Orengall quest, "The She-Wolf Snared." In a future update, the pup will be raisable into a full-sized and fearsome ride. The feature was demoed live on-stage, with four players joining in co-op and running across Alca as a pack. And speaking of four-legged friends, a new boss was added to Soulframe Preludes during the devstream: the dreadful Mendicant Reinbreaker, a corrupted horse and rider. Similar equine monstrosities factor into the Vadagast pact, and the live demo revealed the player may be able to ride one as well. Fans also got their best look yet at the mysterious Empress Eldveil, portrayed by Jennifer English (Clair Obscur: Expedition 33). English joined the developers on stage at TennoCon, describing how she knew she had to play the character as soon as she first read the script. For the remainder of the weekend, anyone who signs up at the game's official website can immediately receive access to Soulframe Preludes, the PC-only alpha program. After midnight EST on Sunday, July 12th, access will revert to invite-only, or through codes obtained through the game's Founders program.
