Contractors prepare for tougher 2026 as tariffs, labour shortages and policy uncertainty converge. GlobeNewswire Published Jun 08, 2026 Article content Dodge Construction Network and CMiC survey finds firms tightening bids, rethinking growth as costs rise and demand softens Article content Toronto, June 08, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - A new survey of U.S. contractors conducted by Dodge Construction Network in partnership with CMiC, a leading construction ERP platform, reveals widespread concern over the impact of policy changes on both costs and project demand. As uncertainty grows, firms are becoming more selective in bidding, tightening contract terms and prioritizing margin-focused growth strategies. Tariffs are already affecting the industry, with 91 per cent of contractors reporting cost increases, and many expect further disruption as government policies continue to evolve. Article content As pressures mount, contractors are increasingly turning to technology to maintain efficiency and profitability. Among firms adopting AI-enabled tools, reported effectiveness gains range from 50 per cent to 100 per cent over previous methods. Automated proposal generation is rated 92per cent effective, contract risk review 86 per cent, and progress tracking using site photos 92 per cent, marking a shift from incremental improvement to measurable performance gains. Article content "Construction firms today are operating in a far more complex and constrained environment, where the margin for error continues to shrink," said Gord Rawlins, President and CEO of CMiC. "With tariffs impacting 91per cent of contractors and project pipelines slowing, financial visibility and operational agility are no longer optional and they are essential. At the same time, only a fraction of firms are fully leveraging technology, which represents a major gap. As AI continues to reshape how construction projects are delivered, CMiC remain committed to providing technology that keeps pace with industry demands, both within the US and globally." Article content Key findings include: Article content * 84 per cent of contractors cite aggressive pricing competition as a major challenge, while 62 per cent report increasingly unfavorable contract terms as risk shifts downstream. * 65 per cent report schedule impacts due to skilled labour shortages, and 76 per cent identify retirements as a key driver of workforce attrition. * 91 per cent report tariff-related cost impacts, and an average of 72 per cent expect negative effects from policy changes. * 84 per cent expect inflation to reduce overall construction volume in 2026. * More than 80 per cent report compressed schedules and post-bid cost increases, 72 per cent cite rising project complexity, and 67 per cent face material availability challenges. * While AI tools deliver strong results, only about one-third of contractors are aware of these capabilities, and adoption remains significantly lower. * Despite challenges, 74 per cent of contractors say they are optimistic about their company's performance in 2026. Article content The findings highlight a persistent gap between awareness and adoption of AI, driven by barriers such as limited understanding, access and resources. They also underscore the growing importance of unified, high-quality data to support more predictive, data-driven decision-making. Advertisement 1 This advertisement has not loaded yet. How Komatsu East Saved 10,000 Hours with custom data.

How Komatsu East Saved 10,000 Hours with custom data. May 6, 2026 Heavy equipment sales depend heavily on timing. Connecting with a general contractor after a project breaks ground often means missing out on the deal entirely. Sales teams need early visibility into emerging projects to position themselves as the ideal equipment partner right from the start. This post explores how Komatsu East transformed their sales workflow, saving thousands of hours and uncovering new contractor relationships using personalized construction intelligence. Overcoming regional sales challenges. Kim Voorhees, Sales Support & Marketing Administrator at Komatsu East, faced a complex hurdle. She supports over 60 revenue-facing professionals across multiple states and product lines. Giving her team basic access to project data was insufficient. Her sales reps needed a clear, actionable view of exactly who was building and bidding in their specific territories. Sales professionals are notoriously busy, and if a software tool slows them down, they simply ignore it. Kim needed a system that delivered immediate, hyper-relevant project intelligence so her team could plan equipment needs long before construction crews arrived on site. A tailored solution for equipment sales. To solve this visibility gap, Komatsu East partnered with Dodge to implement a deeply customized approach. Dodge built specialized reporting tailored to each sales rep and their unique role. This provided early visibility into project activity, active bidders, and contractors across five states. To further streamline the workflow, Dodge created a daily "click-and-go" email report. Key updates arrive automatically, showing reps exactly who to contact and where to focus their energy each morning. Proactive refreshers and direct, one-on-one support helped new hires ramp up quickly while enabling veteran reps to maximize the platform. Measurable efficiency and growth. As Kim Voorhees noted, the reporting was built around how their people actually sell. This alignment generated impressive operational and financial wins: * 10,000+ Hours Saved: Team-wide, Komatsu East saves over ten thousand hours annually thanks to automated project tracking and personalized daily email delivery. * Targeted Expansion: Each sales rep identifies approximately 10 net-new contractor relationships every year using this targeted project intelligence. * Strengthened Loyalty: The team successfully maintains and strengthens 90% of their active customer relationships by staying ahead of ongoing project needs. Empower your sales team for success. Providing your sales team with the right data at the exact right moment creates a major competitive advantage. Komatsu East proved that highly personalized reporting drives massive time savings and sustained growth across a large organization. Are you looking to equip your own reps with actionable construction intelligence? Review your current data delivery methods and consider partnering with an intelligence provider to build a workflow that fits how your team actually sells.

How Central States saves 250 sales hours a year.

How Central States saves 250 sales hours a year. April 30, 2026 Building a proactive sales motion requires one thing fast: a reliable way to identify real opportunities and the right people behind them. Without a dependable source of project and bidder intelligence, sales teams often fall back on searching online, building questionable lead lists, and chasing contacts with no proof they are active in the right kind of work. Jason Monday, VP of Sales at Central States Building Works, recognized this problem immediately. He joined the company to help grow a specialized division focused on delivering engineered metal building solutions for contractors. To succeed, he needed his team to focus on targeted outreach and tight territories, rather than waiting on referrals. This post explores how Central States Building Works partnered with Dodge Construction Network to eliminate guesswork, streamline their sales strategy, and save hundreds of hours in manual research. The challenge: guesswork and sales chaos. Before implementing a robust data solution, prospecting for construction projects often relies on outdated methods. Sales teams spend hours Googling contractors, making guesses about project timelines, and cold-calling lists they cannot trust. For Jason and his team, this approach was unsustainable. They needed to get into the market aggressively, but they lacked a dependable source of truth. As Jason puts it, "Without Dodge, we'd be back to Googling contractors, guessing, and cold-calling lists we can't trust. That's not a strategy - it's chaos." The team needed a tool they would actually use - a platform that could consistently translate prospecting efforts into a healthy sales pipeline. The Dodge solution: A clear starting point. Central States Building Works turned to Dodge Construction Network to provide the project and bidder intelligence they were missing. Dodge replaced the chaos of manual research with a streamlined, targeted approach. Ease of use drives adoption. Many sales tools offer vast amounts of data but fail because they are too complex for daily use. Dodge stands out because it prioritizes the user experience. "I've used a lot of tools in this space, and the difference with Dodge is that it's actually easy for salespeople to use," Jason explains. Dodge made adoption simple by giving reps a platform they could navigate quickly. It created a clear starting point for daily prospecting, ensuring reps always knew exactly who to target next. By standardizing three to four core reports based on territory and build type, Jason kept his team focused and prevented information overwhelm. Eliminating the guesswork. With Dodge, the sales team no longer has to wonder who is building what or where to hunt next. The platform filters opportunities down to their specific markets, building types, and what is actually happening in the field. Reps can easily identify the contractors bidding on the right projects. This means every piece of outreach is based on reality, not guesswork. The results: real ROI and time saved. The transition from manual research to Dodge's data-driven platform delivered immediate and measurable results for Central States Building Works. By focusing their efforts on verified project data, the team achieved the following metrics: * 250 hours saved annually per rep: By reducing manual research and eliminating unverified lead lists, each sales representative gained back weeks of valuable selling time. * 60% of qualified prospects identified: The team now sources the majority of their high-quality leads directly through Dodge. * 50% of targeted outbound activity supported: Half of all targeted outreach is now directly backed by insights from Dodge Reports. From chaos to a proactive sales strategy. Using Dodge transformed how Central States Building Works approaches the market. They moved away from a reactive model waiting for referrals and adopted a highly proactive sales motion. The platform also supports ongoing team development. As the sales team evolves, Dodge facilitates seamless ramp-up and retraining periods with refreshers and preset reporting. This ensures that new hires can immediately tap into the same structured, data-backed prospecting process as veteran team members. Equip your sales team for success. You cannot build a reliable sales pipeline on guesswork. Central States Building Works proved that equipping your team with accurate, easy-to-use project intelligence directly impacts the bottom line and saves countless hours of wasted effort. Stop Googling your prospects and start targeting verified opportunities. Discover how Dodge Construction Network can help you identify the right projects, connect with the right contractors, and turn sales chaos into a streamlined strategy.

Podcast: will construction support high US steel prices in 2026?

Podcast: will construction support high US steel prices in 2026? 13th April 2026 MEPS's new Speaking of Steel podcast debates whether demand from the United States construction sector will support surging long product prices during 2026. Reduced steel supply, resulting from the application of 50% Section 232 tariffs on steel imports in early June, has contributed to an increase of over 20% in the price of steel used in the construction sector, including rebar and beams, since January 2025. With new domestic production coming online in 2026, MEPS teamed up with the Dodge Construction Network to consider whether the balance of supply and demand might be about to shift, and what effect this will have on steel prices. Sarah Martin, associate director of forecasting at Dodge Construction Network, joins MEPS US steel market analysts Laura Hodges and Gary Sanders for the debate. The podcast episode, hosted by MEPS managing editor Tom Sharpe, can be accessed via Hodges said: "The Dodge Construction Network is a wonderful resource for US construction data and analysis. I use their Dodge Momentum Index each month when analysing steel markets. It's a great indicator of future demand for long steel products, so it was really good to have an opportunity to hear from Sarah and tie her insight with MEPS's own research into the US steel sector. "Last year steel prices rose significantly in response to reduced supply. Here, we were able to pose the question of whether increased demand might support those high prices in the months ahead." Listen to the new episode of Speaking of Steel, entitled "Will construction support high US steel prices in 2026?", to benefit from: * A US construction sector outlook, delivered by Sarah Martin, associate director of forecasting at Dodge Construction Network * Analysis of areas of strength and weakness in the US construction sector, and the outlook for steel demand * Discussion around the effect of US Section 232 tariffs on the supply of rebar and beams to the construction sector, and the upward pressure applied to prices * Consideration of the possible effects of the Middle East conflict on inflation and interest rates MEPS's latest instalment of the Speaking of Steel podcast follows February's US tariff-focused episode, which sought to answer the question "Is Section 232 US steel market's 'only certainty' after tariff shake-up?" The episode is available on demand, along with other Speaking of Steel discussions, via YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts. Regular insight from the US steel market is featured in MEPS's International Steel Review. The monthly report features steel prices, price indices, market commentaries and forecasts.
