Ikea to launch second-hand marketplace to take on eBay. By PA News Agency Ikea is launching a marketplace platform for its second-hand furniture and homewares (Steve Paston/PA) Ikea is to take on the likes of eBay and Vinted with plans to launch a new marketplace platform for its second-hand furniture and homewares. The Swedish retail giant said it hopes the platform will make it "as seamless as possible" for consumers to buy and sell their pre-owned Ikea products. It has not confirmed a launch date for the UK platform but said it would provide more details "in the coming months". Members of the firm's membership scheme, Ikea Family, will be able to connect with other customers through the platform. The furniture giant has already launched trials of second-hand marketplace services in other countries, including Spain and Norway. An Ikea spokeswoman said: "At Ikea, Harwich & Manningtree Standard is always looking for new ways to make life at home even better and help its customers discover products they love. "With the launch of Ikea second-hand marketplace in the UK, Harwich & Manningtree Standard is taking a meaningful step toward creating a destination that simplifies access to pre-owned Ikea furniture. "We're creating a trusted and vibrant space to make it quick and easy for our Ikea Family members to trade directly with one another." It represents a push by Ikea into the second-hand market amid the growing use of eBay, Vinted and Facebook Marketplace by consumers. Vinted has expanded from purely fashion to sell electronics and homeware in recent years. Other retailers such as John Lewis and Currys also sell pre-loved and refurbished products through their platforms. More Stories
eBay brings back Renee Paradise to lead $10B fashion business. Published: Aug 17 2026 Updated: Aug 17 2026 eBay is bringing former executive Renee Paradise back to the company as Global General Manager of Fashion, putting a veteran of eBay, Bloomingdale's and Neiman Marcus in charge of one of the company's key growth priorities. Paradise will start August 25 and lead eBay's global fashion business across luxury and non-luxury, according to WWD, while reporting to Chris Prill, VP of Focus Categories. She previously worked at eBay from 2014 to 2019, including as Senior Director and General Manager of Fashion, making her another in a long line of what the company calls "boomerangs." She went on to senior digital and growth roles at Bloomingdale's and Neiman Marcus, followed by a stint as interim Chief Digital Officer at Veronica Beard. Most recently, Paradise has been a Senior Advisor at McKinsey, where she also spent 10 years earlier in her career. She returns with eBay saying fashion now generates more than $10 billion in annual GMV. In Q2 2026, Focus Categories GMV grew 26% year over year on an FX-neutral basis and surpassed 40% of total GMV for the first time, with fashion growth led by luxury and pre-owned inventory. Core C2C GMV grew more than 20%, including double-digit growth in US consumer sellers and supply. Those gains helped eBay deliver 15% overall GMV growth for the quarter, though Active Buyers remained flat sequentially at 136 million and Enthusiast Buyers stayed at 16 million. Since Paradise left in 2019, eBay has expanded Authenticity Guarantee, brought pre-owned fashion to eBay Live, acquired Norwegian secondhand marketplace Tise and launched initiatives including its Circular Fashion Fund. The company completed its $1.4 billion acquisition of Depop on July 30. Depop will continue operating under its own brand and platform. Paradise's expanded mandate includes helping shape how eBay's fashion offerings come together in marketing and strengthening collaboration with Depop. Analysts have raised concerns about how much investment Depop may require as both marketplaces face growing competition from Vinted. Recent data from the UK Competition and Markets Authority puts Vinted at an estimated 50% to 60% of UK C2C online apparel GMV in 2025, up from just 5% to 10% in 2021. Over the same period, eBay fell from 30% to 40% of the market to 10% to 20%, while Depop dropped from 10% to 20% to just 0% to 5%. The CMA said both companies had closely monitored Vinted's rise and made changes in response, including changes to seller fees. Vinted has also stepped up its US expansion, increasing advertising and launching a New York-focused push earlier this year. Paradise's appointment also raises questions about eBay's existing fashion leadership. Alexis Hoopes joined eBay in September 2024 as VP, Global Head of Fashion, replacing former VP Fashion Charis Marquez. Hoopes' LinkedIn profile still lists her in that position today, and she was posting about the Depop acquisition on LinkedIn as recently as two weeks ago. It's unclear how Paradise's new Global GM role will fit with Hoopes' existing position or whether Hoopes' remit will change. eBay has not responded to a request for comment as of publishing. EBay has appointed Renee Paradise as global general manager of fashion, effective 25 August. The move comes as fashion generates over $10 billion in annual gross merchandise value for the platform. Paradise previously worked at eBay from 2014 to 2019 as senior director and general manager of fashion. She subsequently held senior positions at Bloomingdale's and Neiman Marcus Group, and most recently served as senior adviser at McKinsey & Co. In her new role, Paradise will lead eBay's global fashion business across luxury and non-luxury segments. Her remit includes shaping fashion marketing propositions and strengthening collaboration with Depop, the consumer-to-consumer fashion marketplace eBay acquired last month for $1.2 billion in cash. Paradise will report to Chris Prill, vice president of focus categories, and be based in New York.

eBay hires Walmart, Amazon alum Andres Gonzalez to lead Global Authentication & Shipping. Published: Aug 13 2026 Updated: Aug 13 2026 eBay has hired longtime supply chain executive Andres Gonzalez as VP & GM Global Shipping and Authentication, bringing extensive ecommerce fulfillment and logistics experience from Walmart and Amazon to the role. Gonzalez announced the move on LinkedIn this week, calling Shipping and Authentication "must-win priorities" for eBay and saying the opportunity is to make selling and buying "simpler, more seamless and more trusted at every step." He joins eBay after more than 16 years at Walmart across two stints, most recently leading end-to-end supply chain strategy, ecommerce fulfillment and last mile operations. Earlier in his career, Gonzalez spent nearly four years at Amazon Global Cross Border overseeing parcel operations, procurement and network strategy, along with about a year and a half leading supply chain and logistics operations at Peloton. Gonzalez arrives as eBay increasingly looks to shipping as a source of revenue. Shipping revenue grew double digits year over year in Q2 2026, with a majority of UK C2C transactions now processed through Simple Delivery managed shipping. The company's Q3 outlook also identified shipping, along with advertising and payments, as a positive contributor to take rate. Shipping also feeds into eBay's headline Gross Merchandise Volume, which includes shipping fees and taxes. That means higher shipping charges can lift reported GMV without any corresponding increase in the value of merchandise sold. eBay is leaning more heavily on buyer fees and shipping as it eliminates or reduces traditional seller fees for private sellers in the UK, Germany and Australia. It did not disclose in Q2 how much revenue it has given up through those fee changes or how much it is recovering through buyer fees and shipping. The company is also expanding eBay International Shipping, replacing the Global Shipping Programme in the UK and rolling the service out to Germany beginning in September. Under eBay International Shipping, sellers ship domestically to an eBay hub, with eBay taking over customs processing and the international leg of delivery along with many returns and claims. In the US, eBay is testing Managed Shipping with invited sellers in limited areas and categories, including some clothing, shoes and accessories, and jewelry listings priced at $200 or less. eBay sets the shipping rate paid by the buyer and provides the seller with a prepaid label, then assumes responsibility for certain loss and damage claims once the package is accepted by the carrier. Management did not address the US test during the Q2 earnings call, even while highlighting shipping as a growing revenue contributor. eBay has also been adding protections for sellers who purchase labels through the platform, most recently saying it will handle refund requests for some delayed deliveries, building on Item Not Received protections introduced last year. Shipping programs are also contributing to higher transaction losses, which increased from $86 million in Q2 2025 to $133 million in Q2 2026, with eBay attributing the rise in part to higher consumer protection losses from shipping programs and customer experience enhancements. Gonzalez is also taking over Authentication as eBay expands its physical operations and brings more transactions into Authenticity Guarantee. eBay and TCGPlayer this week marked the expansion of operations at the company's 145,000-square-foot Louisville, Kentucky Authentication Center, which handles sneaker authentication alongside TCGPlayer trading card verification, sorting and fulfillment. The company launched trading card authentication in the UK earlier this year, is lowering the US eligibility threshold from $250 to $200, and is preparing redesigned packaging after longstanding complaints about raw cards moving around inside existing holders. Meanwhile, CEO Jamie Iannone has repeatedly said that, to his knowledge, no counterfeit products have passed through eBay authentication, despite documented examples to the contrary. Gonzalez said he plans to bring a "customer-backwards mindset," operational excellence and a bias for action to both Shipping and Authentication, while asking users for feedback on what is working and where eBay can improve.
