Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • June 2026: NSW backed ESC with $100 million for reliability as coal retires.
  • August 2026: ESC supported Home Energy Saver loans for 32,000 households.
  • August 2026: Steel River East battery construction began, validating ESC's first platform.

What critics are saying

  • April 2026: SMH reported ESC still had not invested a single dollar.
  • June 2024 bill passed; board only appointed July 2025, showing slow execution.
  • If first investments slip beyond 2026, ESC becomes a political facade, not an investor.

What makes ESC Corporation unique

  • NSW-owned ESC deploys capital into grid storage, not generic venture bets.
  • June 2026: ESC committed $100 million to four-battery platform with 650MW capacity.
  • Chair Cameron O'Reilly and CEO Paul Peters give ESC energy-market and policy credibility.
