Overview

Eleos AI Research is a nonprofit research organization focused on the ethics of advanced AI, especially AI welfare and moral patienthood, producing papers and practical guidance for AI labs and policymakers. Its work combines philosophy, AI safety, cognitive science, and policy to explore whether AI systems could have interests or welfare that deserve moral consideration. It differentiates itself through independent philanthropic funding (no corporate donations) and an interdisciplinary team that aims to influence both research practices and policy, not just theory. Its goal is to deepen understanding of AI welfare and to develop concrete tools and recommendations for governing and guiding the development of advanced AI with welfare in mind.
