By Jim Milliot | Aug 31, 2026 A few days before Google's announcement about its Expert Intelligence initiative for e-books bought through Google Play, Elsevier announced the launch of Nora AI, an AI-powered assistant available within Elsevier e-books through VitalSource's Bookshelf platform. Nora AI enables users to ask questions and receive personalized, evidence-based answers drawn directly from Elsevier content, per the announcement. Created by Elsevier and designed for healthcare education, Nora AI allows students and educators to interact with Elsevier content and get answers to questions about the text without having to leave the e-book. The tool is being rolled out to more than 1,500 hospital sites across the US starting in September. Ask AI provides clinicians with conversational access to answers drawn exclusively from ClinicalKey's evidence-based content, including over 900 scientific journals, clinical guidelines, and medical books. All responses include transparent citations and the system does not pull information from the open web or store patient-identifiable information.
