Jio Platforms absorbs Embibe; $180M investment

Jio Platforms Ltd (JPL) is set to absorb edtech firm Embibe, leading to the layoff of around 300 employees. Founded in 2012, Embibe received investments from Kalaari Capital and Lightbox, and in 2018, Reliance Jio committed to invest nearly $180 million for a 72.69% stake. Embibe's workforce grew to nearly 2,000 but has since reduced. The merger comes amid challenges in India's edtech sector, with some employees being absorbed into JPL and others receiving severance pay.
